There is definately no proof about the existance of plasma stealth that i’m aware of .

this was more than 5 years ago.

New “Stealth” ((NEVIDIMKI)) Airplanes Being Tested in Russia
In the scientists’ opinion, the use of these engineering novelties will permit the lowering of the delectability of flying apparatus by more than 100 times. The new technologies will be used in the series production of fifth generation airplanes. Examples ((OBRAZETS)) already have completed flight tests. As is being reported, the airplane’s invisibility is assured by the creation of a plasma field, which absorbs electromagnetic waves that are generated by an enemy’s means of detection, and it creates false signals about the speed and location of the protected object

As ITAR-TASS reports, the President of the state unitary enterprise “The Flying Research Center,” honored test pilot of the USSR, Hero of Russia Anatoliy Kvochur, who has been piloting the fifth generation MiG fighter has taken part in the experimental flights.

(The) new multirole fighter airplanes possess ((SIC)) high maneuverability and stealth. The latter is assured by creation of a plasma field, which absorbs electromagnetic waves which are generated by an enemy’s means of detection, and it creates false signals about the speed and location of the protected airplane.

how can u expect a twin engine fifth generation fighter without these cheap technologies.

In 2005, answering a question for the British magazine Flight International ((in English)), the chief designer of the Sukhoy design bureau, Aleksandr Knyshev, declared that he would not object to a budget of 10 billion dollars allocated b the Americans for the similar F-35 (JFS) ((sic, in English)) program, but really he is counting on 3 billion. Thus, at the planned market cost of the Russian airplane at 30 – 35 million dollars (at 5 – 10 million less than the F-35 has), investments in the program will be repaid with the production of a series of not fewer than 100 aircraft, which is fully realistic, considering the high competitiveness of the Su brand of fighters.

so 5th generation is not some fixed thing but continous improvement process over time so Bring it on wrongly attributed Western 5th generation definition to Russian one.

    http://www.royfc.com/news/jan/1905jan01.html
The Su-27SM is close in its combat capabilities to the PAK FA, but it will not reach them, because during these years the margins on the fifth generation airplane will multiply.

. But it, this upgraded Su-27SM, meets all the requirements of a new airplane and even, if you will excuse me, spits further than the Su-30MKK and Su-30MKI taken together. Because we put into it all the best of them. And this is the optimal variant of an upgrade.

Then again your definition is not in line with that of the russian definition . I beleive that there are media reports that claim F-18E/F to be fifth generation ( I believe someone pointed it out a few days back in some other thread) that doesnt make it a fifth generation aircraft.

how my definition not in line with russian definition of 5th generation fighter?
It is direcet quote from commander in chief that there Su-27SM is near to 5th generation fighter and surely Su-34 surpasses it by wide margin in terms of rcs signature, jamming, weopons. they compare its signature to modern cruise missiles. and u should know russia has been testing radar evading crusie missiles like Kh-65MR.

    http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showthread.php?t=20107&highlight=su-34
The Su-27SM features a strengthened fuselage, wing and landing gear to allow for a higher weapon load. The aircraft has received “a totally new avionics set” using systems from the Su-30MKK/MKI export models. “The Su-27SM is nearly a fifth-generation aircraft. It needs a lower signature characteristic and new weapons to be one,” Gen Mikhailov said.

there tons of reports calling it 5th generation from experts not some arm chair general.

Russia’s Air Force to Receive Fifth Generation Fighter Bomber

Russia’s air force may receive into the inventory the newest fifth generation tactical fighter bomber. The flight of the first series-built Su-34, which has no analogues in the world, took place the past weekend, our correspondent Nikita Sumerkin reports.

The first flight of the newest Su-34 lasted half an hour. According to the preliminary conclusion of the experts, the airplane exceeds even those technical requirements which the Ministry of Defense presented to the developers.

In particular, the level of this aircraft’ avionics allows considering it for fifth generation airplanes and to remain the best in its class even longer.

The Su-34 is able to destroy heavily defended targets in any weather. The attack aircraft is equipped with a large caliber cannon, self-guided missiles and bombs with an operational radius up to 250 kilometers and dog fighting missiles. Moreover, there are air-to-air missiles in the arsenal which destroy both enemy airplanes and guided missiles. The pilot have helmets for this which allow locking onto a target in a single glance.

Star Austin himself presented the reports that put the Su-30MKI at 4+ and the T-50 at 4++ now you can add as much to the +’s you want and the greater the
+ signs the greater is the closeness to certain technologies of fifth generation fighter. The F-22A , F-35 , PAKFA , Mig 5th gen. fighter proposal , MCA , Chinese JXX , Japanese fifth gen. dream and others all seem to share a single common point and that is that they use extensive stealth ( not just LO here and there) and have it as a prime design goal with internal weapons and comformal sensors , with the top of the fifth gen. fighter (F-22A , PAKFA) adding the top performance when it comes to Stealth , Supercruise and manueverability and setting the benchmark in optimum fifth generation performance criteria . Now what would the next logical step be for a fifth gen. heavy strike fighter ??? Well it would definately not be a backtrack from what currently is available and back to external weapon bays and not all out 360 degree stealth therefore it would be something that includes stealth ( heavy high altitude and low altitude penetration) , long range , flexible Internal weapon bays , good cruise performance , self defence capability , Integrated avionics and comformal sensors high speed data links just to name a few . The FB-22 can be one such example I can think of off the top of my head which brings
Stealth ( better RCS reduction then even F-22A) , ordinance ( more weapons cleared with larger bays ) and long range ( upto 1500nm with 200nm supercruise or 1800nm radius as subsonic flight) etc etc but even it is largely a dream and most likely never going to be realized . The Su-34 is a very very capable aircraft and with what it is being proposed ( i think it will start to be inducted in 2009) is in many ways better then the F-15E and the F-15E will have a lot to catch up to interms of structural mods,AESA,avionics racks etc etc to compete as a platform ( notice i mention platform and not weapons system – as a weapons system the F-15E is very very competitive with the JDAM , SDB combo) however the fact still remains that the su-34 is something that is upgraded ( considerably ) over a design that is based on the flanker family and has been upgraded and refined . it is most likely in the same league of the T-50 as a 4++ generation figther as it fails to incorporate the basic design feature that all the fifth gen. fighters / fighter bombers have either in feild or in design ( f-22A , F-35 , PAKFA , mig5th gen , JXX , Japanese X, MCA et c)

Pretty much useless paragraph. how T-50 became 4++ generation fighter?
the rest are just ur believies that 5th generation fighter should be this and that. unless u can put some official opinion not speculation. stealth is not some thing constant. An Aircraft will be stealthy against 10 year old radar system but not stealthy agianst current or future one or the other side may not acknowledging it.

Austin to be fair with star it wasnt him who brought the LCA up but me . And i am not saying that the IAF is claiming that the LCA is 5th gen,However my point of contention was that if the idea of ” FREEDOM TO DEFINE ACCORDING TO OWN NEEDS” is actually valid then India , SK , singapore and others should also have that FREEDOM therefore it shouldnt be contested of IAF actually calls the LCA a fifth gen fighter or SK calls the F-15K a fifth generation fighter jet as it is upto them to DEFINE WHAT A FIFTH GEN. FIGHTER IS ACCORDING TO THEIR OWN NEEDS. Heck if Tonga ever purchases a upgraded F-5 then they should also have the ability to call it a FIFTH gen fighter AS IT MEETS THEIR REQUIRMENTS AND DEFINITION FOR FIFTH GEN FIGHTER therefore why should TONGA’s definition of a fight genreation fighter be same as that of russia’s and US’s .

India/SK/Singapore hasnt made even a half decent fighter by its own. Classification by them will have the same worth like classifying ICBM/Submarine generations by them. Unless boeing/USAF call F-15 5th generation fighter it is certainly not. US/Russia has built so much military planes that they alone can classify what is 5th according to there airforce doctorine.

As SOC has said that the russians have themselves defined a fifth generation fighter to include Stealth , Supercruise , internal bays , and highly integrated avionics both with the PAKFA and the Mig 5th gen. rival being proposed as the JSF competitor therefore the question about redefining it doesnt arise. The USAF is also proposing to put the Apg-77 onto the F-15E aswell as the state of the art avionics and other structural improvments however in no way will this fighter be fifth generation fighter as it fails to include most of the technologies that basic fifth generation designs poccess ( F-22A , F-35A.B.C and PAKFA) it is merely going to be a 4th gen + ( I really dont care how many +’s you add to either the T-50 or the newly upgraded F-15E ) . The bar has been set with the F-22A , F-35 and PAKFA interms of breakthrough technologies going into them therefore to claim that any new aircraft comming in this timeframe fails to meet them is no way a fifth generation fighter but something that is merely using certain fifth gen. technology elements with a proven 4 (4+ ) generation technologies and airframe ( nothing wrong with this ) .

the problem with ur analysis is the same people who are calling MKI 4+ and SU-34 5th. what ever definition put they for PAK-FA does not exclude other characteristics for calling another fighter 5th generation.
u cannot question this things as they know better. The same way is for engine.
Now u cannot exclude AL-31 upgrades (AL-31FM-5) from 5th generation engine. so AL-41 is not soley a 5th generation engine.

The Russian fifth generation combat airplane will be lifted into air in 2009, Russian Federation vice premier and defense minister, Sergey Ivanov, announced on Friday, 21 July, during a working visit to MMPP Salyut.

“We are counting on seeing the fifth generation airplane in the air in 2009,” he said.

As regards the fifth generation engine, the “direction of its creation which has been adopted at the Salyut enterprise is correct,” Ivanov thinks

Ofcourse so is the LCA for the indians !!!

Russia has built thousands of fighters for decades. they can define there own generations. u have to believe just like they put 4+ for MKI.
India does not have such credientials to call any fighter 3rd, 4th or 5th generation.

No garry that is not the point here – The fifth gen russian projects also according to russian sources place emphasis on Stealth , Supercruise , Avionics and manueverability as represented in the PAKFA .

this definition may be only for air to air fighter

However if russian definition of 5th gen. isnt that then you are correct they can call it whatever they wish to define it , it is their wish same way India can Call the LCA as a fifth generation aircraft based on their own definition

It is nothing short of 5th generation. and u have to create new characteristics to define new generation.

The airplane can remain unnoticeable for an enemy in any weather, at any time of day or night thanks to a powerful radar ((LOKATOR)) which fulfills the role of an anti-radar.

“A powerful radar and the newest aiming system are installed on this aircraft.” The airplane has been a success. It also has turned out both modern and smart and beautiful and precise,” the leading engineer of the V. Chkalov NAPO, Aleksandr Bondar’, says.

The splendid flying and tactical characteristics, and also the ultra-modern avionics allow observing any insignificantly sized ground target and, correspondingly, attacking it with maximum effectiveness. The rear-scan radar (RLS) is able not only to warn the crew of an enemy attack, but also can guide even air-to-air systems which are capable of destroying enemy guided missiles with the same precision as airplanes.

The Su-34 is not a fifth generation aircraft. It is, however, a very potent strike aircraft.

They may have there own definition of 5Th generation based on certain undefeatable characteristic like 1 Su-34>12 Su-27 according to Ivanov.

The Su-34 is being looked at as one of the Russian air force’s highest priority programs. In the opinion ((of specialists)), the avionics level of this aircraft permits considering it for fifth generation combat airplanes

As a fifth generation combat airplane, the Su-34 is integrated with ground and space support systems (for example, it can use satellite guidance for precision destruction of individual targets) and at the same time it possesses a high level of autonomous electronic and armor protection, successfully overcoming an enemy’s active fire resistance and the use by him of jamming. The unfamiliar level of comfort for Russian combat airplanes, the ability to use the whole range of aviation weaponry and ideal maneuverability complete the portrait of this aerial predator, the most formidable in the whole history of worldwide military aircraft construction.

very big claims associated with Su-34. No rival in West, 5th generation, Missile proof.

Text of “24” news report by Russian Ren TV on 7 July

[Presenter] The first mass-produced fifth-generation military aircraft, a Su-34 fighter bomber, today left the Chkalov aircraft manufacturing plant in Novosibirsk. The aircraft has no equivalents anywhere else in the world. Artem Shershnev has further details.

[Correspondent] For the first time in the last 20 years the Russian Air Force is receiving a unique aircraft which is superior to all bombers employed by Western armed forces. The Su-34 is capable of destroying any targets, be it in the daytime or at night, both on land and in air. At the same time it remains practically immune to air defence.

[Valentin Golubenko, head of Defence Ministry’s directorate for aircraft procurement] It is a focus of the most modern technologies developed by the Sukhoi design bureau. We expect this aircraft to bring about a significant increase in the efficient use of aviation.

obviously you seem to be the only one on this forum that can see russian AESA as a developed product even though russians dont have a MM Mod line ready as yet and are only taking in demo or scaled down versions of antenna on brochures and shows. MIND YOU – every one else by in large agrees with the notion that russia doesnt have an operationally ready AESA FOR FIGHTERS and the only one that disagrees with that notion is you!!!!

so do u think they will take there domestic variant to brochures and shows and will offer something for export like MIG-35 when they have not mastered its radar yet. and completely new shape variant of A-50 is entering service in near future. so if current version is PESA/Mechanical the another should be AESA as shape will be different.

Now wait a minute is the su-30NKP or whatever rubb they call it going to have AESA or even an IRBIS PESA?? Wait a minute there isnt even a report claiming that this deal is going through and that a ROP has been made by iran?? the person who posted this thread IS JUST BS and hasnt put his money where his mouth is .

where did i mention anything about this thread? it is only about ur statement of 50 aircraft profit.

Comming to profit – Russia is a pretty good sized trading partner for the US and Vice Versa and looking at the things both countries have billions at stake with each other . Boeing CEO Allan Mullally just sugned a 18 billion dollar deal with russian titanium supplier for the 787 dreamliner and also is getting into a advisory role for SUKHOI and their regional commercial aircraft. There is plenty of space cooperation and trade is growing rapidly . The Sukhoi isnt exactly broker either – they have had very good success with the flanker with orders from quite a few nations and the line is hot and in demand. Russia will have to weigh in the cons as well of this deal and in my opinion they will not go ahead with this as they have plenty else riding with the flanker and PAKFA to **** the US off at this time .

Stability in Middleast is not in Russia interest no matter how much there trade is growing with the rest of the World and kind words they say in diplomatic terms.

Russians most likely value their relationship with america a lot more then what profits a 50 jet deal ( again speculation as not even a shred of evidence is available to support such a claim) , Russia and america are increasing Bi-lateral trade and are friends unlike back in the day . It is in the interest of both parties to increase this friendship further .

It is the same logic like Russia AESA that profits are from 50 jets. because the indirect profits u cannot see so ur assuming that those profits do not exist just like Russia AESA u cannot see.
It is the instability in Middleast that is the profit(which drives energy prices) not the 50 jets.
Arms/Nuclear industry is the only high tech export in russia and they have to create demand for that. West will not buy from them so Middleast/Latin america is left. Assuming China/India gets self sufficient or go some where else in future.

    (From AP Worldstream)

Venezuela will install an advanced air-defense system with anti-aircraft missiles capable of shooting down approaching enemy warplanes, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said Thursday.

Chavez, who has repeatedly accused the United States of plotting to overthrow him, said the missiles would help defend the oil-rich country against any “aggression.”

“We’re going to acquire the most modern anti-aircraft defense system,” Chavez said during a televised speech in the coastal state of Falcon, where military planes and newly purchased Russian helicopters swooped overhead during a military parade. “We’re going to armor Venezuela.”

He said the air defense system would protect Venezuela from its Caribbean coast to its Amazon border with Brazil. He suggested he saw components that Venezuela will buy in visits to Russia, Belarus and Iran over the past week.

“The modern systems that we saw in Russia, Belarus and Tehran detect the target at 200 kilometers (125 miles). They come with missiles that go direct, guided by the heat of the planes that come,” Chavez said. “Venezuela will be armored to defend ourselves against any aggression.”

Flush with booming oil profits, Chavez has been spending heavily on Venezuela’s

military while warning the country must be prepared in case U.S. troops one day attempt an invasion. American officials dismiss the suggestions as preposterous, though U.S. President George W. Bush calls Chavez a threat to democracy in the region.

Chavez sealed a deal last week in Russia to buy 24 Sukhoi Su-30 fighter jets and 53 helicopters. Venezuelan Defense Minister Gen. Raul Baduel has said those new deals, plus the installation of factories to produce Kalashnikov rifles and ammunition, will cost on the order of US$3 billion (A2.4 billion).

The arms purchases have made Venezuela one of the top spenders on arms in Latin America and have made Russia the main supplier of weaponry to Venezuela.

Venezuela’s military already has begun receiving 100,000 Kalashnikov AK-103 rifles under a previous arms deal.

Offering something to someone doesnt mean that the offering is in the kitty. The US offered the apg-80 to UAE , but they didnt have that radar ready infact UAE had to shell out hundereds of millions to get that capabiity ready.

so US does not have any other AESA program when they offered UAE AESA? UAE money is more for customization into F-16. Not developing something new from ground up. similar is the case of Brahmos. India would not have sign up unless they have confidence for its success (Yakhont already there). Similar is the case with BARS for MKI. (zalson was already there).

Would you please get of the Mig-35’s back . The thread isnt about the mig-35

MIG-35 is called MIG-35 because of AESA otherwise it is MIG-29OVT. so if MIG-35 is ready it means that AESA is ready.

but about russian AESA’s in general and to suggest that western deliveries are this and that is neglecting the fact the west delivers close to 40-50 AESA ready jets every year to its customers ( USAF,USN,UAE ) . This thread isnt about export but comparing russian fighter AESA radars to western fighter AESA radars. There are about 100 USAF/USN/UAE fighters currently operational with AESA radars and another about 150 AESA on order in addition to the Apg-81 which is going to get a buld LRIP order very very soon and this is just for fighter AESA’s . As opposed to the 100 Western fighters there are 0 Russian or russian built fighters with AESA radar in operation. The russians are currently developing their AESA radars and the radars arent yet being integrated to any fighter. India can pay money and decrease the timeframe for development but that is mere speculation at this point of time. We must go by what is certain rather then what might happen.

there over 500 fighters with passive phased array from Russia. and there range is not less than comparable AESA of western fighters. For Ruaf any AESA has to justify its superiority over PESA (on which they have decades of experiance). if export oriented Irbis can claim 400KM range vs 3sqm. so think about its domestic counterpart of MIG-31 with larger antenna and AESA has to surpass these figures to make it logical choice.

so they allready have an AESA ready according to star although he cannot provide anything to show it mounted on a fighter , being tested , hours clocked etc etc , just a newsclipping is all he needs to satisfy himslef when it comes to russian stuff however when its western stuff its a completely different story .

nope in this very forum there is report that Russia is willing to give full TOT for India MRCA contract and the specifically mentioned AESA and its official interfax report. u can easily search for it.
so how can they give AESA TOT when they dont have there own?
compared MIG-29K RCS reduction on MIG website to this one. it proves the logic that export ones have less capability than what is inside.

    http://www.royfc.com/news/feb/2701feb01.html
Together with the St. Peterburg State University for Telecommunications and NVP Panatron they developed the Lak-3-10 coating from bindings that were not in short supply ((NEDEFITSITNYE SVYAZUYUSHCHIE)). In 1999, tests of a MiG-29 with the new coating showed that its detectability had decrease by 13 times.

beiing offered for export doesnt qualify as operational in my standard. If your standard qualifies it as operational then its up to you and what you believe. I wonder if you use the same yardstick to also declare the F-35 as operational since it is also open for export.

Read the key word Ready for Immediate Production. Is this Word associated with anything else?

    Could you provide sources please!!

source is that MIG press release on IN MIG-29K. which clearly states 50% more fuel compared to original MIG-29. since original MIG-29 has 1500KM range u increase it by 750KM to arrive it at 2250KM. offcourse it is raw calculation which does not take it into account newer economical engines. or any weight or aerodynamics.
