Russia designing 5th generation warplane unaided – minister
PERM. Nov 24 (Interfax-AVN) – Russia does not yet plan to involve other countries in its project to build a fifth generation warplane, Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov said.
“So far, we will be implementing the project by ourselves,” he said.
Ivanov also said an agreement on joint design of a cargo plane will be signed during the Moscow visit of the Indian prime minister this December

Zhukovskiy (Moscow Region), 18 August: Russia has a number of advantages over the USA in the development of a fifth-generation fighter aircraft. The head of the Sukhoi corporation, Mikhail Pogosyan, expressed this view in an interview with journalists today.
He said this optimism was based on “the extensive experience acquired in the development of fourth-generation fighters”. Referring to Sukhoi combat aircraft, he recalled that “they have a higher level of efficiency than foreign equivalents”. “However, the USA leads the way in the development of fifth-generation machines because it is investing huge sums of money in this work,” Pogosyan acknowledged.
At the same time he said that “the characteristics being incorporated in Sukhoi’s future plane exceed those of American rivals”.

More over MIG-31 with long range weopons will clear anything flying at thousands of kms from Bastions like ASW/E-2C aircraft that can become threat to Russians submarine fleet. It is the role of airpower to create protective cover for Submarine fleet. Moreover now even SSK can be equiped with Club missiles unaffected by MTCR regulations for Ruaf navies and will be able to stirke at hundreds of kms. It is the job of airpower and satellites to provide accurate sea battle picture to Submarines. I would rather have 200 SSK creating a wall around bations than 30 SSN. When you have accurte intelligence u can preposition the subs ahead of time at right locations. and since they are SSK so u have greater number. In old days SSN was necessary as real time sea picture was not readily so for last minute dash speed was important. Now with greater reliance on Airpower and satellite survellence. There is no need for that as u can permamently station SSk ahead of time and they do kill with similar weopons. The whole things come down to effective use of Air and space power along with latest communication technologies. SSK has clear role to play inaddition to SSBN/SSN.

Russian Navy prioritizes construction of nuclear submarines
In 2009, the Russian Navy will receive the first nuclear-powered attack submarine of the Project 885 Yasen (Graney) class, named Severodvinsk, Vysotsky said.

star49I am talking about using diesel subarmines for protection out in blue water. Do you think it is enough having a SSK sitt still and wait for an enemy sailing by? As a protector you need to patrol the area the boomer is operating in, That can not be done at 3-4 kts. Everytime she surface she expose her self from beeing picked with passive and active sensors. As a boomer, you do not want one nearby you. Boomers will never be used for protetion. Maybe during time when leaving port and reurning to port you can have 2-3 Diesels protect the coast just outside, but then theyr role is over.
SSK still usefull if they can be built in greater numbers so as to ambush. And protection against ASW assets is the job of airpower now. longer range aircraft with even longer range missiles can practically deny rival ASW assets.

Shillong, Sept 27: The Indian Air Force will induct the home-grown light combat aircraft Tejas by 2015, Air Chief Marshal FH Major said on Friday.
Admitting that the Tejas programme was running behind schedule, Major said, the IAF has recently decided to absorb 20 Tejas aircraft and ten others with old engines for training.
Designed and developed by the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA), the single-engine supersonic fighter controlled by the pilot with electronically on-board computers, was mooted to replace the ageing fleet of MIGs.
About reports that the aircraft would be able to carry only limited weaponry, Major said, it was conceived in 1982. A new configuration has been developed and it has proved to be very capable, he added.
Of late, experts had found complications such as that Tejas’ US aeroengine GE404 did not have requisite thrust to give it power to carry its full load of weaponry.
LCA’s present GE404 engines gives a thrust of only 80-85 kilo newtons, while the weapon payload of the fighter needed a thrust of 95-100 kilo newtons.
Major admitted that there was some problems with the engine and search was on for a new one.
“We are looking for a new engine and the RFP in this regard is expected to be issued soon,” the Air chief said.
I have serious doubt that M-88 can be certified to 95-100KN class in less than 10 years on single engine fighter aircraft. Sem-146 is essentially M-88 based & it took 5 years and still it is not certified and passenger airline flight envelop is not that big. and Snecma agreement hasnt been even signed. EJ-200/F414 are $10m per engine. It will make LCA way expensive for its intended purpose. Project is mismanaged.

From what i read. It wont make difference to them whether they are confortational or not. Infact by confortational they created certain commoidities prices monoplies with countries which are not in west good books and win certain contracts. It is the Western and Eastern Multinationals that are in need of Russian consumer society and high end R&D capabilities. If Russia had to play nice with West. Russian government will demand that All Western countries sell there downstream energy network to Russian energy giants so it can profit from Western consumers directly without middlemen. Which West wont do as it will further squeeze the consumer. Russia is not China/Japan/SK that its Wealth is based on cheap exports and investments into financial insitutions with paper holdings. so u cannot expect the same relationship.

Sept 25 (Interfax-AVN) – Russian President and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces Dmitry Medvedev visited a submarine base of the Pacific Fleet in Krasheninnikov Bay in Kamchatka on Thursday. He toured the St. George strategic nuclear-powered submarine equipped with intercontinental ballistic missiles and anti-sub and anti-ship torpedoes.
Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov and Pacific Fleet Commander Vice-Admiral Konstantin Sidenko accompanied the president. Submarine commander Capt. 1st Class Oleg Nazarov was leading the tour.
Medvedev was shown the submarine’s main command post, which controls the boat, missiles and torpedoes. The submarine is capable of reaching any place of the globe.
The sub was built in Severodvinsk in 1978 and launched in 1980. It has a crew of 197, Nazarov said.
The president was shown the submarine’s combat data system, control system and chart room. He expressed particular interest in the sub’s navigator receiver operating by signal from the Russian Glonass and the U.S. Navstar clusters. Nazarov told Medvedev that the device was installed in 2004.

The RuAF still has no operational aircraft with AESA, or very long range AAMs, so keep speculating based upon test launches all you want.

All these Sukhoi Superject and Su-35 are from early 2000 programs. Even in 1999 right after stock/bond crises economic growth was still 10%.They will only introduce AESA when it is better than there PESA systems just likey they will replace soyuz shuttle.

The problem is that banks gave out loans to people that they shouldn’t have, and then other banks/investors bought loans on the principle that they were safe. In otherwords people were operating on bad info and speculation, much like some of the claims that are made here. Free markets and Capitalism have nothing to do with people making boneheaded decisions. Even China has seen the advantages of free markets vs. a command economy.
They have to give loans to create growth in construction, financial and other sectors even if some one is not qualified for loans. There is no choice. when you put so much automation and shift of industrial strength to Asia. u either have to create loans to absorb the paper money or dig the ground like Russians.

I suspect no MIG pilot is gonna keep flying towards an incoming SAM/AAM, and no AAM has the seeker power alone to engage those sorts of targets at any great distance. The fuzing still needs to be correct to engage that sort of target as well regardless of how recent my example was.
Why should they release operational details of new stuff?. Wait untill 2020when they will release data just like they release data 1993 test in 2005 publication.

Russia to build missile defence shield and renew nuclear deterrence
Russia is to build new space and missile defence shields and put its armed forces on permanent combat alert, President Medvedev announced today.In a sharp escalation of military rhetoric, Mr Medvedev ordered a wholesale renovation of Russia’s nuclear deterrence and told military chiefs to draw up plans to reorganise the armed forces by December.
He said that Russia must modernise its nuclear defences within eight years, including the creation of a “system of air and space defence”.
The announcement puts Russia in a new arms race with the United States, which has infuriated the Kremlin by seeking to establish an anti-missile shield in eastern Europe. The US argues that the shield is aimed at rogue states such as Iran, but Russia is convinced that its own security is threatened.
