Back in the 1960’s, Brown Brothers were a major source of aircraft fasteners and the like. They even had a branch at Heathrow. I regularly purchased bits from them when employed by EMI Electronics Ltd at Hayes. Though many projects at Hayes were aviation related, the bits I purchases were used on military vehicles, usually with radar kit aboard…

Extremely sad news. Al was a stalwart of the Auster movement for over 30 years, including being a very organiser of Auster Club Fly-ins, whilst also being a Jaguar pilot. Sorely missed by everyone who knew him.

Nice pics and interesting subjects. I love the shabby chic look of some of them.

Shortest one is, or at least was, easy. There was a Heathrow – Gatwick service by Islanders about 30 years ago. Westward Airways?

When I was a lad…. There were many trooping charters flown from Heathrow. A lot of these involving Skyways Avro Yorks. Many was the time pieces of chalk whizzed past my ear during history lessons, to alert me to the blackboard and away from the York trundling by on its take off run just the other side of the A4 Bath Road.
Somehow lessons seemed better with the sound of 4 Merlins passing by, be it a York, or an Argonaut (Canadair C-4)…:)

I can remember the TWA Packet making visits to Heathrow. It was originally ET-T-12, but later acquired an N registration. It was used to transport spare engines around, when engines had cylinders and propellers!

Yes, they don’t last long there. This is the third one I know of that died at Marathon, or in the sea nearby. I flew N89B there in about 1990. That one went on it’s back during pre-flight power checks, presumably the pilot didn’t have the stick hard enough. Its replacement ditched in the sea after running out of fuel. The latest apparently had engine problems and had to ditch. It will be interesting to see the accident report.
As a matter of interest, they have a WACO UPF-7 at Key West that’s being giving joy-rides since at least the 1980’s and, to my knowledge, hasn’t been damaged at all.

May have missed the flight in that one, but I got some stick time in this one from Marathon in about 1990…

    Mmmmm…sheep…. 😮

I thought Ken Ward’s neighbours were just sheep and mountain goats?

Didn’t he live about 100 miles from anyone..??

All I can say is that the neighbour must have had very good eyesight.

I wonder what on earth will happen to his vast collection/museum?
