    Get a wig, eat less and take regular exercise?.:)
    Sorry, coudn’t resist it!
    There used to be a small museum up in the Bedford area but I think they concentrated on the airfields USAF history. Perhaps they might be interested in your stories.
    How long were you at the RAE there?

    Rgds Cking (Fat and balding too!!)

    The museum is still there. I passed it last week on the way to driving a Porsche at the Autodrome.

    PS I felt quite ill by the end of the session! 😮

    My 2002 Mitsubishi Galant I bought as an ex-demo with 4000 miles on the clock, now has 60000 and, apart from normal servicing and tyres hasn’t had any faults whatsoever. Nor did its 1999 predecessor.

    Well, I’d never have guessed one would be there! Looks like it needs a lick of paint though.

    Here’s a couple more of the family. (These are all scanned from small size pics taken on a low quality camera in my youth, so quality isn’t the best!)

    I know there was an outfit called Blue Air who used DC-4’s for holiday charters, from Manston I think. Dan-Air had their fingers in many pies in the late 60’s onwards with Comets, Boeing 727 and the like. All were well past their sell by dates. One 727 I flew in to and from Lanzarote had to stop off at Valencia on the way back to top up its tanks. Whether it was headwinds, or just cheaper fuel being the reason I’ll never know, but the diversion made us late into Gatwick, missing the last train home.

    Do you mean tour operators-or airlines associated with or owned by tour operators.
    Sorry to sound pedantic but theres is a fair difference between the two.
    (eg Clarksons and Thomsons were/are tour operators-but their associated airlines were Court Line and Britannia Airways.)
    Thomsons used many airlines to fly their package tours-such as Hispania/Spantax/Monarch etc.
    Laker=Lord brothers and so on?

    Take your pic! Just need a memory nudge of how things used to be 😎
