[…] those three German Dolphin class subs with their big-diameter torpedo tubes could launch a number of stealthy cruise missiles […]

    IF
Israel would attack Iran, this would be the most possible situation.

This not more a military discussion, now it is political !!!

Here’s a small correction to the link provided…”K” was used as a prefix long before 1962….it comes from the 1947 designation change (you know when “P” became “F”) and was not part of the unified designation system change of 1962.
As an example…KB-29…which was out of service long before 1962.

Yeah, you’re right. Just looked up in my books!

    Go raibh mΓle maith agat!!!

Current Designations of U.S. Military Aircraft

I presume, the letter “K” was free in 1962, the US changed the Designations of U.S. Military Aircraft.

STOVL??? Why not STOL for USAF!!!

    Hi folks,

I think, the USAF should buy a STOL (short take-off and landing) version of the F-35.
Well, I know the USAF want the STOVL version (F-35B) , because it would be very suitible on frontline airfields. The Marines AV-8B+ were very sucessfull in Afghanistan and Iraq. With a gun pod, Small Diameter Bombs and new multi-sensor missiles the F-35B would be very good for the CAS.
But does the F-35B not have weight problems?
IF those problems can’t be solved before service, a STOL version would be more possible!

A STOL F-35 would have a round, low observable, thrust-vectoring nozzle and larger wings (F-35C), so it could also start and land on motorways and frontline airfields. It wouldn’t have the lift-fan, so it would use the space for fuel. It could switch between CAS and long-term actions over battefields.

To sum up, a STOL F-35 would have speed and range like a F-35A and short take-off and landing capabilities like the F-35B.

So, folks, what do you think about my theory?

Since the mid-90s, a civil variant of the C-17 is also explored, under the MD-17 and BC-17X designations. This would have specific military equipment like ECM and paratroop doors removed and be able to carry 77100 kg over a 4600 km range. First delivery could be two years after programme launch, but up to now no cargo airline seems prepared to invest in this very expensive aircraft.

Last time I heard about the BC-17X was about 3 years ago.
The cargo market doesn’t need the BC-17X (yet).
It’s cheaper to rent out a AN-124/AN-225, if cargo can’t be carried by other aircrafts like B747F, B767F,A300F,MD11F etc..

Lessons from Irak without (or less) A2A combat show that some F-15C’s (maybe F-15D’s, because bonus of 2nd pilot/observer) will get lite A2G capabilities upgrade, mostly weapons like JDAM, JSOW etc.

I’m hope I’m right on that?!

The production line hasn’t closed. Boeing is still turning out F-15s for South Korea.

If Singapore buys the F-15T, the production line will stay open for some more years!
BTW,the “T” of the F-15T means “Temasek”, the malayain word for “Singapore”.
