The F-4E Peace Icurus 2000s were more than just an AMRAAM upgrade thow, they do carry Litening 2 targeting pod and can also use almost any 500lb-2,000lb LGBs.

With P standing for Persia it looks like the last obstacle to the 250 Su-30MK order has been finally removed !!! 😉

The last obstacle will be when Iran pays Russia for their nuclear fuel 🙂

And now – if they can manufacture or try to manufacture a copy of F-14, this will definitely increase their engineering potential. And if this will be less costly than a brand new Su-30xxx, so it is good for them.

You are wrong. One of the main reasons for the USN to get rid of the F-14s was due to the overwhelming costs to replace the databus system. None of the other onboard systems or databus would be functional with Russian equipment. Can you imagine all new avionics, data system, radars, and associated electrical systems would cost??? It would be insaine not to purchase new SU-30MKs. AIM-154s are totally obsolete, they have nice range but modern EW/ECM would stomp them in a heart beat. The F-14A doesn’t stand a chance (even with new russian engines and manufactured spare parts).

all in all, i think its definately worth while because althow the technology may be under rated now for its price tag, in 10-15 years, this technology will extremely advanced and will probably revolutionize the battle field forever.

i must say, the Iranian F-14 is one of the most overrated aircraft in the world.
they didn’t do all that well against the Iraqi airforce during the border conflict and were primarily used as an AWAC platform. the american electronics the IRANIAN F-14s are 30+ years old, even if they aren’t lying and can produce many of the tomcats parts locally, the USN used the cost of updating just the databaus on the F-14 as one of the main reasons to retire the entire fleet, I would have to say that the cost to replace the entire avionics, data system, radars, and associated electrical systems would be outrageously expensive (could only be done with severe russian help) and would cost well beyond what it would to simply buy newer aircraft…. so all in all, if the Iranians haven’t updated any of those items, the Iranian F-14s are basically garbage…HOWEVER, the Iranians have ordered 250 SU-30MKs, but it doesn’t matter, in a war situation with the U.S. all the Iranian aircraft would be destroyed before they were airborne 🙂
