RE: Air New Zealand B747 lands back at LHR after engine scare!

How does AZ have rights to fly from LHR to LAX? Does this mean they operate an around the world route? I had thought that previously only Singapore came close to this. Interesting development in light of the whole “open skies” discussion that was going on last week.

    Thanks everyone.

I had completely forgotten about Buzz. I will also investigate the German rail service (now that I know which station in Frankfurt to use).

I don’t know all the details, but it is my understanding that El Al aircraft have been accompanied by police/military for some time now. I believe the reason is due to terrorism, etc..

    RE: Air Canada’s 65th Anniversary

Wow, I’m Canadian and I hadn’t even seen that yet, thanks.

I think that they are also celebrating 65 years because they are in some serious financial trouble, and facing a lot of competition to their monopoly now on the domestic front. I think it’s basically a marketing campaign to remind Canadians of the history of the airline and perhaps to inspire travel and loyalty.

Really like this last shot, especially with the traffic in the background.

Thank you for the replies. I will look into SNCF.com and I was surprised to hear that UA flies this route also. Will let you know what I find out for the record. Seems to be a very popular route though, maybe a bit of a LH/AF monolpoly???

    Thanks again, regards,

RE: EasyJet could award 120-plane order by end of this month

You can operate both aircraft, but obviously makes sense to move forward with one product.

I think another sweet that Airbus may be dangling is the cancelled A318 orders. I keep reading of problems with the program. Perhaps for routes that don’t require the capacity of the 319/320/321 they will give them a big discount to invest in the 318. Didn’t BA reduce the size of its order?

Also, the fact the EasyJet, GO, and Deusche BA may potentially be one, an all European fleet for an airline that seems to be trying to establish itself as European rather than British would seem like an attractive marketing ploy. Maybe I’m stretching, I’m sick today 🙁

    RE: Open Skies Agreement

I may be completely ignorant on the subject, but it seems to me in one sense the UK is protecting the interest of its carriers (3 vs how many?). However, I think it does go a bit far in favour of BA. I think the other two British majors (Virgin and BMI) should have access also.

I know in Canada from Toronto to London AC has five direct flights a day and BA has two. I don’t know if that is all BA wants, but have had a healthy trade relationship with UK for a long time (Commonwealth).

Not sure if those comments are worthwhile or not.

    RE: ID time

I was trying to establish by the groud equipment what continent it was, but I couldn’t tell. Looks a bit more European. I can’t see where the drivers are sitting though to see if it is the UK.

I may be wrong, but the aircraft in the far left of the photo (sorry don’t know the model) looks like a vintage Air Canada. Air Canada adopted the maple leaf very early. Like I said though, I may be wrong and reading more into the image than what is there.

    Great photos!

    RE: Comet to Concorde.

I’m not sure if aviation publications are expensive in the UK, or elsewhere for that matter, however, they’re quite pricey here, and although I love the magazine, Airliner World is quite costly. I’m sure this has to do with importing etc., etc.. It’s unfortunate though.

    Thanks for the price conversion.

Love the Australian! Hadn’t seen it yet.

I really like looking at aircraft with lights illuminated on overcast days. It’s quite striking.

I didn’t even realize that Pan Am flew the DC8, I thought they only flew the B 707. Thanks for posting that photo.

I can also add the Seattle is very good, although the there is not very many exotic types to view.

Even though we are not the United States, Toronto has excellent viewing areas. You can park on the top of terminal one and see the entire airfield. However, they will be destroying this terminal (and terminal two) for a one massive terminal and this will compliment terminal three.

The logo “The Spirit of Australia” used to be in italics wasn’t it? Or did it change a while ago and I never noticed???

    Great pics.
