It’s a pity that the F20 never went into production.

The US should have procured a few dozens of them for agressor duty and then propose it to small countries air force while the manufacturing line was open.

With an up to date radar and a HMD, it would be the master of all dogfights.

Well I read up on the tiger and it seems the germans have serious issues with them too.

Aren’t NH90 and Tigers manufactured in Australia anyway? Is there something completely wrong with Eurocopter Australia? Did Australia add for options that turned out to be complex to integrate?

Edit: it appears the aussie Tiger is to become operational on december 2011

Stand corrected, cheers. I guess I was thinking of the Rafale won 4 vs 1 engagements with RAF Typhoons story.

Still, I like to point out. DACT exercise, it is was it says on the tin and not a full out every man for himself kind of battle, of which for some of that just to like to get it over and done with, which, good for them for training purpose but probably not so good for ones that just want to watch it ‘movie style’, if I may put it. Frustrating, just like what we last heard of the Typhoon vs MKI, last I read was from Air Internatinal, they’re were kills on both sides…Apparantly. Which still doesn’t say much. Still interesting though I must say.

No problem, it’s easy to get confused. There were so many EF spankings already! :p

But it seems like rafale to has a too high fuelconsumption for western tech, i could agree on that..still its a looong way to F-35 and MIG-35 in this field 🙂

That, or your numbers are off.

    Tks for the info.

So what according to you is taking the French so long to finish their AESA? Lack of finance for the radar is highly unlikely. By what time will be a fully operational radar be ready?

    It’s in production already 😉

Nic, I have seen lots of sources telling me 2100km on internal fuel.
    Gripen NG 2500km (official sources)
    EF 2600km(internet)
F-16 1750km is a very questional single source (which i dont remember), and somebody hopefully have a better one..

    Correct me if im wrong..

The 2100 km range is all over the web but I’d like to see a credible source. It’s not because it’s repeated ad nauseum that it’s true. Just one quick google search gives me another result. Oh by the way it’s: “> 2100 km”

    http://www.fighter-planes.com/info/rafale.htm

Then once you have a credible range for Rafale, you need to compare range with the same conditions (no ext fuel, no weapon etc).

Besides ferry range doesn’t matter at all operationally. What matters is range with a given loadout (& at what possible speed and load factor).

Everyone & their mother know it’s 10 tons for a Rafale, now let’s see those sources for ferry range.

Well it’s been talked about in phantomII’s thread about the Mirage 2000 in 2010.

The 2000 can carry 250 kg bombs on those pylons, but paveway can’t be carried because of problems with the proximity of the engine intakes. It seems that some part of the PW could be ingested during launch (or of the pylons or gases or whatever).

There are pics of peruvian 2000s with those pylons used to carry israeli LGBs which likely don’t have the same problem. I also have pictures of french Mirage 2000s with dumb bombs on them.

In my wet dreams the M2k carries 2 a2sm on the center hardpoint and 1 brimstone on each of the four fuselage hardpoints. With the 2 2000l tanks and 2 Mica IR on the external wing pylons (or laser guided rocket pods? :diablo:).

Well obviously it can’t carry as much bombs as it did on promotion pictures, but I guess it can still carry two or four with two fuel tanks and a LDP.

Lets wait for the pics to come out.

There’s no reason why a Typhoon with AMRAAMS ASRAAMS and LGBs can’t do the same though.
