I have to give it to the Raptor camp here, though data suggests Rafale can keep it supersonic for about the same ammount of time, (tho i would like some further confirmation on Rafale SC) there is a huge speed difference of sustainable supersonic speed, that will give Raptor the upper hand.
That’s heavy vs medium fighter in a nutshell.

One wonders how the Rafale would’ve fared, had the engagement started at BVR, and the Raptor approached stealthily, rather than having the Rafale pilot start with visual contact.
A smart rafale pilot would fly without the radar, trying to detect the raptors by passive means (L16 with sea, ground and air assets, OSF, SPECTRA).
So it all comes down to whether SPECTRA can detect the APG77 or not. Which is why the US didn’t want to use it in ATLC 😉

Incorrect. The Greeks talked about how the ECCM in their F-16C Block 52+ were able to compensate for Rafales’ active jamming during exercises a few years ago.
Here’s a thread that talked about those exercises, to refresh your memory:

Those were F1 Rafales with very much degraded spectra IIRC;

It is assumed spectra was off during the BVR episode.
if spectra was on then its even more telling since the missile launch was not detected. launch detection, jamming, Ir, where not practiced here.
You keep trumpeting IR BUt wont acknowledge that the F-22s max missile range is FAAR out of Rafale Ir range. How will the Rafale get in Mica range?
You think all 6 AMRAAms will be jammed? The Raptor can play cat and mouse from 60 feet and out of IR and MICA range. going mach 1.7 using sniper tactics.
What makes you think the The F-22 can jam and spoof? or just focus all of the AESA modules on the Rafales radar and burn it?
Maybe missile launch wasnt detected because no missiles were lauched?
Hello McFly? Is there someone there?
4. If the Rafale turns off its radar and spectra to try and sneak up on a F-22 its as blind as bat.
Why the heck would it turn spectra off?
Get real!
And, December 6, a MICA has been assigned its target – indeed virtually destroyed – only with the SPECTRA system
it doesnt say aircraft, as was your claim
what was its target and what targeting information was passed to the missile from what part of spectra ?
Mica is an AtoA missile for christ’s sake!
so an aircraft with SEAD is still SEAD without its SEAD equipment
ok, so that makes sense to you
The point is that the Rafale needs no extra equipment to do the same job as a F16CJ.
can you point out where DSI said that SPECTRA alone can be used to target an aircraft
i cant find that bit
Look again I’m not your mom.
Who is “the french”?
While the information was sketchy at first, it only got confirmed by DSI with further detail. What got confirmed is that a vanilla Rafale can do the job of a dedicated USAF SEAD aircraft.
What also got confirmed is that Rafale gave a spanking to the Typhoon at ATLC, and that it was not the same spanking that the Rafale gave to the Typhoon in Corsica, as some tried to make us believe.
Lastly, the BVR targetting of Rafales by F22 was done with ALR 94, so no emissions needed. Similarly DSI confirmed that SPECTRA alone can be used to target an aircraft.

Norway FTW 😀
I was indeed talking about IOC. We have to wait and see if the 2012 figure is met. I don’t find it very likely.

If a UAE deal is signed this year, the production UAE improved Rafales could fly before the 1st production F35…
That’s AESA, OSF IT, Improved RCS, 90KN engines, HMD and maybe conformals… definately not a bad 4.5 gen aircraft.
As for weapons being outdated it’s pure BS. AASM, Scalp, Meteor, Mica are all very good and pertinent weapons.
Nic
Swerve, MBDA apache is nothing like a glide bomb, it’s a cruise missile. You must be mixing it up with something else.
Nic
You make the mistake of applying US solutions to the french problematic. The french have their own way of doing things and hence don’t require the same solution (towed decoy, main radar jamming for EW)… because of different choices. It doesn’t mean that their solutions are inferior.
Nic
By the way, I think for 2020+ there should be 360° AESA coverage merging defensive (EW+MAW) and offensive (Radar) functions.
