as per my last post, i think the new aesa will be used for jamming too, is that mentioned yet ?
errr… the Rafale is ALREADY equipped with AESA jammers π
John Roucas is that you?
I thought spectra cost over 2bn β¬?

The refueling probe is probably made of radar transparent material or covered with RAM, I don’t think it’s an issue or else it wouldn’t even be there in the first place.
I have read here a while ago that for the M88 version a new air intake was developped for bigger air flow. It was also said that the new intakes would have lower radar signature than the current ones.
CFTs could also be part of a more stealthy Rafale, as they probably would have less radar signature than EFTs. Same with stealthy “pods” to carry air to ground ordinance. “Active stealth” may also play a huge part of that.

12X 8 small diameter bombs? you do the math!
Definately enough material to obliterate moscow from the map.
Nic
I would love to see a simulation in which a French Raf flies into Moscow and fights its way through T-50s and S-400s on its way to a high value target.
Lets just say 12 Rafs with some of them providing top cover.
I wonder if the odds of success look better in a F-35?
You seriously think 12 F35 can attack moscow when T50 and S400 are operational?
:D:D:D
But that is where F-35 shines. It possesses enough stealth to stay out of reach of IADS, yet allows it to place sensors on the moving targets/IADS and kill them with PGMs. Rafales would only be allowed to fly after the F-35s did all the heavy lifting.
I think your logic is flawed.
You can stay out of reach of IADS only when you know where they are and what aspect to present them. If you know where they are, obviously you can launch a Scalp-EG at them.
I doubt you would just overfly enemy territory just looking around with your radar to look for your mobile targets. Stealth plane or not it would be suicide even if they don’t pick you up on radar, your own radar would betray you; and EODAS is nice but to look targets with it? Come on…
Going against a very modern IADS, not knowing where your targets are? Who in his right mind would attempt that?

Yes, and then only at supersonic speed, too. High aspect ratio is a Good Thingβ’ in subsonic flight (look at airliners and gliders). That hardly matters though, by those standards even the SH and F-35C are decidedly low aspect ratio.
Thanks, I was under the silly impression that the wing was just bigger.
Nic
So it’s the aspect ratio that makes the C more draggy, and not the mere size of the wing…
And watching all this, if I were a client of this thing, I would already have become very very suspicious and be searching for alternatives.
which would be pretty difficult if you have already poured money into it, and negociated workshares for your industry.

The tejas looks like a mix between a jaguar and a mirage 2000.

Higher roll inertia for the C.
Instantaneous pitch can be higher for C in low speed regimes, but militarily useful maneuvers typically involve roll before (or at the same time as) pitch.
C also has the 7.5G pitch limit to keep fatigue life under control.
I see, but bigger wing may mean bigger control surfaces to keep roll performance similar? Also, fatigue life would be less of an issue for a landbased C version, so maybe the G limit could be lifted then, especially with a beefed up structure compared to the A.
Nic
The airframe weight/size was set by the B’s need to fit on the LHD’s elevator. This is an unfortunate constraint on the military utility of the A and C versions which really need much longer combat radii to perform in future scenarios where nearby basing is threatened.
The A has the best acceleration and maneuver performance. The C had to employ larger wings/tails and heavier structure per NAVAIR constraints for operating off the CVN. While providing a minor increase in range, the big wings/tails degrades acceleration and maneuver. C is still OK for a bomb truck, but it doesn’t have the performance of a clean F-15 Block 50.
Well shouldn’t the bigger wing give the C a better manoeuver performance, at least instantaneous?

AV8B proved nothing that a CATOBAR wouldn’t prove even better.
