can anyone provide a link that proves that jackjack isn’t retarded?
No they don’t. They start by making a guess and refine the result as more data comes in.
Well, submarines can identify tracks thanks to their acoustic signature. Once this is done and the number of blades on the propeller is known, speed can be found by measuring the number of rotation of the propeller.
However submarines are limited to bearing and speed while planes are limited to bearing and range (thanks to interferometry technique+triangulation); I don’t know which combination would be easier to compute to get a firing solution.
I agree the whole thing is very similar though.
Nic
The RWR will give instantaneous bearing. Collect enough data over time and you get a complete firing solution (bearing AND range – and speed, too).
Submarines have been doing it for decades, it’s hardly a new concept.
Submarines get bearing and range but already know the speed of the target. That’s how they can figure out the heading of the contact. I don’t think it would be as “easy” with a plane for which you don’t know the speed, but only the bearing and range.

The problem is that Grandclaudon repeatedly says AA-10C and specifically refers to it as a semi-actie radar missile. There is therefore no doubt that they in fact simulated that weapon. The question is whether they really used some kind of STT mode or not and of course we don’t know anything about the details. Anyway it sounds like a great achievement for the French, though we don’t know the details.
I didn’t read the part where it refers to the SARH missile, my bad. It would definately be interesting to know the exact threat the EF was simulating, or if it was at full capability, and also how you say, which radar mode was used to “shoot” the alamos. RBE2 has LPI capabilities but I seriously doubt it could track an EF without being detected.
I suppose the Rafale pilots used the emissions of the EF to sneak in firing position and “illuminated” them at the last moment for the 1st two kills, and then repeated the feat against the other pair of EFs. The lessons of the exercice would be as we all know already: don’t go around with your radar on unless you REALLY need it.

With regards to the CT phase, it has to be taken into account that any SAHR missile requires continuous guidance via illumination. The REB2 can’t provide that, the best they could have done is to use a single target track mode, whether such a mode is available or not, I don’t know. Such illumination alone should be enough to be aware about being attacked. Regardless of whether those two Rafales were able to approach unnoticed prior starting their attack, at the time they started their attack the Typhoons should have been aware of the attack and as only 2 could be attacked at a time the other should have been able to react in theory.
Exactly. The much more logical explanation would be that the Rafales simulated R27T/ET and that Grandclaudon made a mistake saying ALAMO C. With no missiles in flight you get no warning of a shot even if you have an active MAWS. A passive one would probably not be useful against a R27ET though.

I wouldn’t call Jackjack a troll. His questions are safe AND interesting, though frustrating. 😀
the only new thing one can understand from his posting is that:
1/ He hasn’t read the thread, nor the precedent, nor the rafale threads, nor the links people point to him
2/ He is too lazy to make a google search
yeah i suppose to some fanboys it would called trolling, when a statement is made that rafale can passively fire a mica ir at 60k
and i ask how and with the subtext answer of ‘because its french’
then i again ask how
Be my guest and quote a post where someone said the rafale can shoot a mica ir passively at 60 km. surely you can back up what you say at least once in this entire thread?
8-1 while outnumbered 4:2 and simulating SARH missiles sounds utterly suspicious.
Maybe he was mistaken and he meant ALAMO B or ALAMO D (R27T/ET)?
Nic
Sintra, I think I remember the AA10 were AA10T or ET, which is not SARH but IR. I’m going to go back a few pages and see if I can find it amongst jackjack’s trolling.
edit: my bad he said ALAMO C which means R27-ER according to wiki. If it is so then the result of the fight would be surprising to say the least…
This site refers to the R27AE as ALAMO C while Wiki refers to it as ALAMO E. Which is right?

I’m a fairly new member and maybe I’m out of line, but some of the Rafale fans on this board are the reason French people are sometimes perceived as arrogant. Jackjack is trying to clarify a point, and maybe its the language difference, but there is no need to tell him to stfu and stop polluting the Rafale thread. Maybe NickolASS should re-read the title of the thread!!!
A little courtesy people, please.
And you talk about courtesy?
it would be even more ok if you just stfued.
bvr >< 60km btw
but that is using off-board data that i have already agreed with as opposed to the on-board passive targeting of a 60k ir range claim
nobody claimed “60km on board passive targeting”… so go argue that with yourself and stop polluting rafale threads with your nonsense
Stop feeding the troll please guys;
Mica IR and Mica EM are the same missile with a different seeker. Range should be equivalent.
Pulled some bs out of your hat again, waiting for someone to go on google to debunk it?
