I don’t think european navies are anything close. If anything I think european countries will get further and further as the new crisis hits the fan, sometime during this year.

I don’t think that the US would allow SAAB to steal the market for the F35B, which would be almost the only alternative to a Sea Gripen.

Good luck to Saab if it tries to move on with the project; but if they do I suspect they’d need to find alternative suppliers to the US content provided in the Gripen/Gripen NG.

The fact the Meteor seeker is a development of the Mica EM seeker is a testament the quality of the Mica EM when it comes to the seeker. If it was old/bad technology, surely the meteor’s seeker wouldn’t be derived from it.

Besides, the fact an IIR version exists is an advantage per se. Your NEZ is dramatically bigger against an unmanoeuvering target. (unmanoeuvering because it may not even know it is being attacked). Indeed, MAWS is capable of picking the launch of a short range IR missile thanks to proximity, but would it be able to pick up the launch of a Mica, say 60km away? The extra range of the Mica IR compared to most other IR missiles should allow it to be fired outside of MAWS range in my opinion; with no warning when the missile goes active, because it just doesn’t.

I think you’re safe. Your Porsche is faster than their tanks.

Didn’t Dassault demonstrate one of the AESA radars to Singapore using B301 or 302 or a Falcon or an M2K or something?

I’m sure that the Singaporeans had seen the French AESA in action.

Never seen any mention of that. Are you sure?

    Cola…

Everyone and their grandmother know that AESA RBE2 gets 50% more range.

So the missile with a 250+ km range gets its range limited to 300km for export to certain countries.

    Now that’s a + 😀

Can someone tell me the differences between the Scalp/EG and the Black Shaheen?

There are two sides of the story. People cleared to talk to the public in a press conference will usually present you with pre-made statements, while people you unofficially talk to off track might be willed to tell you more. For me the thumb rule is hear as many sides and sources as possible and extract the info and puzzle it together if possible. Yet people might lying or simply exeggerate with their statements, not every pilot is aware of everything. let alone an upper expert. I personally appreciated the hints from Benco as reported by Arthuro.

I agree with you completely. The problem, to me, is that the “other side of the story” is represented solely by Jon Lake / jackonicko, whose track record isn’t exactly clean when it comes to the Rafale/Typhoon.

If I was to ask for something about the Typhoon I would trust you over JL any day of the week.

But other pilots who can’t talk officially can’t be taken into account? Why don’t you give us hints about what the french said? As you guys gave hints about the Italian/French DACT between Rafales and Typhoons in 2007 etc.?

Well some posters talked to several pilots, for instance at le Bourget. You surely remember when Arthuro (I think) reported what benco said to him. But you have to admit that those talks are not as credible than some official comment by the C/O of 1/7 Provence.

    1) It’s fun watching how far you chaps push this claim.
    2) In view of the hints, it will be interesting to see if one of the more intelligent French posters digs out the truth for themselves.
    3) It would be bad form for me to pinch another journo’s story until it has been printed.

I’m sure Jon Lake won’t mind too much about it, no worry.
