You think nuclear strikes and launching anti-ship cruise missiles comprise more than 1% of missions? Lets play a simple math game…

Yes let’s play maths: You think 1st day of war against a near peer enemy comprise more than 1% of missions? Better get a multi-role plane for the other 99% & use the money you save on either a dedicated stealth UCAV (which you are developing anyway) or more stand off missiles.

    No it didn’t…

I stand corrected, I was convinced that it was available with the F3 standard from 2008/2009 onwards as originally planned.

A Block 3F F-35 will be a fully functional multi-role fighter that will be able to undertake every mission an F-16/18 or Harrier squadron could realistically expect to be tasked with. (short of nuclear war)

The same was not true of the various Eurocanards. The “Omnirole” Rafale only became operational with a targeting pod in 2011, by which time the Rafale had been operational for 9 years…

Damoclès became available with the Rafale F3 standard end 2008/early 2009.

I am puzzled by the cowlings however. They seem metallic in nature and not so much of an addition to be honest. If that is what they were meant to be, why not have them on all this time?

Maybe we will see the permanent cowlings only when the new engines are ready. What good is it to develop them until you can fly test them with the right engines?

Big question is, who supplied Turkish seperatists with MANPADS? Not old Strela or Redeye either? Igla is dangerous stuff.

The turks really shouldn’t have shot down that Su 24.

That seems to be the most likely cause. However we all got told that the Ukrainian police opened fire on protesters indiscriminately for no reason in February 2014, but we later found out there were several Maidan doucheclowns on top of buildings who shot both police and protesters deliberately to start a coup, after being handed firearms by unknowns. So the truth is anyone’s guess.

Wow Nicolas ,I am surprised that your wrote something more that your favorite LOL .What next Nicolas ? Will you give me a history lessons ?Will you tell me something interesting about part of Europe which I coming from? US of A ,Japan ,Jews or someone else did those naughty things in Eastern Europe during last 100 years ? Or maybe I should explain to you that what happened in the region during last 100 years of history is relevant to what is happening in the region right now ?Or maybe I should explain to you that there are naughty things ,very naughty things and ultra naughty things ?Come on Nicolas haven’t your mother told you that ?

You are accusing the Russian people of doing stuff that was done by a system: communism. It was done everywhere it happened, including during the french revolution. It’s important to know history for it not to repeat itself, but at the same time it’s important not to accuse the Russia of today of all the evils that the USSR did. You also need to compare it with the evils others did in other places than your own country. Maybe the only reason that the US, or whomever didn’t do anything to your country is because it’s not located exactly in their backyard.

The soviet system was cruel even to its own people. No double standard unlike in western “democracies”.

So are we supposed to list all the dodgy things the US, France, the UK, Germany, Japan have done over the same time span?

    And those weren’t even communist.
