hi to all, thanfuly Simon is ok. it was not a crash it was an accident! the damage to her ( as far as we have found) is mainly around the nose area, radome, all the nose doors, gun blisters, speed brake and of course the port pylon tank, its not very nice, be hopefully we can repair her. We have most of what is required to get her back but we as yet have not been able to get to all the damage.
Hi there, you should have a 1/4 inch square peg at the rear of the aircraft rail that should be spring loaded, on the port side.
As unpleasant work stations go they are very close for sure, have sat in both (and B(I).8 which is tight!) but more familiar with the Vixen position, and I can’t say I like it!
After a certain mod. even both the small windows were meant to blacked out, though on XP924 it looks like the frangible hatch and window are completely clear.
it’s not to bad, if I get bored Brian just flipped it over so I could see where we are. I also have GPS 3 and 4 and the second radio, and, the mode S transponder, so there is plenty to do. Most flights are quite short anyway, the longest I have done was with Brian to Austria, 1 hrs 40 mins on one engine to save a bit of fuel. The best flight I have done was also with Brian, down the Danube through the middle of Budapest at 400 ft and 350 knots, we only broke 27 windows in their parliment building.
Hmmm, a ride in a powerful 1950/60s carrier based fighter, but in the ‘coal hole’!
Am I envious – only just!:)That must be one of the worst ever aircrew stations in a post-war aircraft (and there were many bad ones!), when it comes to working on the section that I have it is with trepidation that I sit in the observors position and close the hatch down!
It would be great to hear about P-Ks experiences in flying in XP924.
Airtest carried out for the CAA, she did well no snags at all, we climbed from 5,000ft to 45,000ft at 92% and .89mach in 7 mins, with no problems, that is the fastest we have done it, all the other parts of the airtest were carried out, the high speed run was at .99mach. And we only used 3 1/2 tons of fuel. her next outing is a runway test with Matt and Brian on Wednesday.out again on Thursday at 2:30 with Simon to Yeovilton, again at 5:30 at Yeovilton, and rtb on Friday am. After that its Saturday 2 June at 7:00pm.
The Sea Vixen is fine, apart from a few defects that Matt came back with the other day, as for showing her, when all the pilot problems are sorted so will they.
our contact is pk@dsaviationltd.com.
That’s usually caused by having the LP c**k open , with boost pumps running, too long before opening the HP c**k.
But of course, you knew that??
Sq:)
No it is caused by the pilot pressing the PTT not the relight, until he remembers

We do anticipate showing her this year, subject to Matt. And yes Brian is still “retired” but he is still Matt’s mentor and still does a lot of the ground training with him, and he still likes to belt around in her even just down the runway.
The CAA would approve Dan and Jonathan Whalley, but they have other commitments and other reason that I cannot go into in a public forum.
That’s good news on the aircraft front, I was asking for confirmation, not inferring I knew something that you didn’t didn’t;)
I have also heard the same thing as Wyvernfan has, from someone within the FAA, that the Historic Flight might in some way get involved with the Sea Vixen for future airshow operations, however that was a year or so ago, so I guess it came to nowt!
We do have close conections to RNHF for very clear reasons, (its big and grey with navy markings) and last year we operated from Yeovilton so we could steal their fuel its cheaper than at Bournemouth! and the landing fees where 0 as opposed to Bournemouths £275. and we may operate again this year for time at Yeo.? I dont think at present the Navy’s budget for HF would be allowed to increase threefold to take on CVIX.
A question, Does anyone have a servicable inflight refuelling probe for a Vixen ours is corroded so we are not able to fit it.
Thanks for the heads up Mark and comments noted, I will give a quick update now on CVIX, She is seviceable, permited and insured. She has got her drop tanks on and they are functional and able to carry another 400 galls of fuel however as Matt has never flown with tanks on the CAA have request we carry out a few flights with them empty to allow him a work up and also to prove to the CAA they are OK. She is still in 899 colours, and she will be out again on friday (ground runs, Taxing, and a belt down the runway) with Matt and Brian so they can both be up to speed as and when Matt is “S” (Which is hoped to be in the next few weeks), as for airshows, the cost is still a big issue and there are not many that are willing to pay a fair share of the costs involved in getting her to the venues, however Matt is the deciding factor at the moment and until he is in the seat we are not pushing.
Before we have the next question about why have only one pilot, its the old answer I am afraid cost, to get Matt up to speed cost about £60,000 which is one of the causes of wiping out DHA, and there are not many around that would be approved by the CAA, who always have the last say in the matter.
I have heard that it is grounded, and also that the pilot still might not be well enough to fly it.
Would like to see any confirmation of both however.
It wasn’t when I left work about an hour ago,you must know something I don’t. There are still a few probs with pilots though but hopefully that will be resolved shortly.
RNHF operate the Vixen? They can’t is the simple answer, not because of skills it’s approvals to do so. And the Vixen alone would use their total fuel allowance!
We at DSA (ex-De Hav) have the manuals for the pod, give us a ring on 01202 575497, and we have a servicable pod, again just waiting for CAA permission to carry it (not holding my breath)
Hi Stacey
give me a ring in the new year PK
Does anyone know why the de Havilland Aviation website has gone non-operational?
Thanks
Sorry guys, as you know we are in the process of moving hangars, everything has been a problem, electricity, phones, doors. I could go on!!!, we hope to have everything up and running in the next week or so. I do apologise.

The Royal Navy have just gone one back up and running!
Was at RNAS Yeovilton Airshow this year!
Hi Matt, it was XP 924 at Yeovilton, and she is owned by a simulator company, Drilling Systems here at Bournemouth, at least I hope it was or we have brought the wrong one home!!!
