Henlow is a treat. Great camp go if you can.
I wish I could, I’m leaving the Corps this October for brighter things, so the chance will most probably never crop up again. 🙁 Unless the Fleet air arm start doing camps to RAF stations :p
Hahaha, 😀 Saw this a while back, very good, like the guy in the red doing his dance.
Looks like seven subs. to me, but then I’m only a pilot. 😀
LOL 😀 Ships nor subs are not my strong point either.
If they are, they must be under refit or decomissioning, as the RN’s subs are based at Faslane and Plymouth.
The Invincible class carriers have been extremely effective ships and a real work horse for the Royal Navy, such a sad day. 🙁 At least the RN will have the other two carriers kicking about for a bit longer. 😉
The MoD have kept it very hush hush on what will happen, I for one ain’t got a clue.
The UK naval bases are poorly mapped 🙁 But I looked up Rosyth in Scotland where the Royal navy sends ships for refit’s and I think you can see HMS Ark Royal in a dry dock at the top of the picture. Are the other vessels at the bottom of the port submarines?

Nice piccies 🙂 , I turned down the camp to RAF Henlow this year 🙁 Looked good fun, dam.
Very good, liking the fleet and the routes, I wish every success. 🙂
Chris: I heard that it was the Ark since she is the newest of the three. Also when the two new carriers come on line She is to be retained as a second Helo carrier to back up Ocean thus providing the RN with two Helo carriers since the cancelation of the second ship in the OCEAN class (retaining the Ark was seen as a cheaper option- can’t see how since she’d be getting on and parts would start to cost more).
Thanks for that Ja. Lets just say the UK government haven’t got the hang of cost cutting in the armed forces, as practically everything they do, backfires in the long run, seems it might happen again. I read in the papers today the Navy hasn’t got enough sailors to man the 2 new carriers, they reckon they need about 1000 new recruits. I think they will get out of this one though. Was quite funny as the article was titled HMS Crewless 😀
Why would this be any more or difficult with the Apache than with any other helicopter e.g. Chinook, Army Lynx? So, I have my doubts with that reason.
I know so do I  According to navy websites, it was a success and the US military is very keen to follow suit.
I agree SteveO, the Merlin is a great looking helicopter in both its RN and RAF forms. Though I would tend to prefer the RN Merlin as with its ASW capabilities it packs quite a punch.
I know the Merlin ASW is a contender to take over the Sea Kings AEW role, though it has stiff competition from the Hawkeye and a version of the V22 Osprey, for when the two new carriers come into service. To tell you the truth i’m not sure who I would like to win that, as it would be nice to see some fixed wing aviation flying off our carriers in the future, besides the JSF.
The Lynx is also a superb helicopter, “in all it’s forms” as Ja says 😀 Especailly the Dannish Navy’s Lynx.
The Chinook I believe is a real work horse for alot of armed services around the world so I think it deserves a mention too. But what baffles me is why in the UK the RAF has it, when its the Army and the Royal Marines that use it most  oh well the top brass in this country must have their reasons.
Superb pictures!!!! 🙂
sssssst! He might replace this photo with a dull chinook!
LOL True 😉
Yes, but I’ve been showing the Commercial aviation forum my photos for the past year or so, and I’ve been working upto this point now, and it’s the commercial gang that have been giving me all the kind comments and support which has lead to this 🙂
Thanks all 🙂
Matt….. military matters belong on Modern Military.
That’s why the Forum is there in the first place, mate.
Bear it in mind in the future, eh?
In any case, your Fairford pictures got a good reception over there. Don’t tell me you haven’t looked?
Cheers
GA
Don’t worry Matt, we aren’t too bad over there on the military forum 😉 Are we?
Well done!! 🙂 I thought that was the best shot from your Fairford selection. Superb!! However its actually an Army Air Corps Apache AH1. but great shot none the less. Congratulations 🙂
That doesn’t make sence mate since they are to be deployed on HMS Ocean as it’s main force element!. But not putting them on the Carriers does make sence since the Carriers wouldn’t be able to accomidate the extra spares needed should an apache need some work done.
Basically I believe haldf of what was said but not all!
I agree, I was also mythed by it, as all the sea trials with the apache were conducted onboard HMS Ocean. Though the Invincible class carrier’s secondary role is to operate as helicopter amphibious ship, but Ocean has taken much of that role off of them. One of the Invincible class carriers (not sure which one) is going to stand in for HMS Ocean when she has her refit so maybe they are gearing up for that inevitability.
A Huey gunship…. with speakers so I can re-enact Apocalypse Now at airshows 😀
LOL 😀 hahaha Nice one!
1. Big house with a private air strip
2. A plane of some sort, most likely a warbird, Hawker Sea Fury 😎
3. I would donate a huge chunk of money to Royal Navy Historic Flight to keep their aircraft flying and also the Sally B
