Like previous posts have suggested, Top Gun is good entertainment and shouldn’t be taken seriously, however, I do have one question. When one of the two F-14’s flew upside down above the other, ‘cockpit to cockpit’ and they both look up at each other, surely that is not possible  well for a start it would be bloody tricky anyway 😮

I think this sentence is more appropriate than the horrendous 14 and 8 years. Intentional killing would be something totally different. It depends on point of view – either we see jail as a correctional facility or as a punishment facility. I don’t think Ashby and Schweitzer have very good sleep, anyway..

I see what you mean and I totally agree. The 14 and 8 years is not justified, and like you have already said intentional criminals get off better. I think Ashby and Schweitzer having lost their careers in the U.S. Marine Corps, as a pilot and nav is a huge blow on its own, regardless of a prison sentence. I know I would certainly be devastated to lose a job as a pilot or nav in the UK armed forces.

Nope, you’re wrong. The list of Business Jets now permitted is long and growing.

Luxair operate their Embraer RJ135’s into LCY (as did JetMagic before their early demise). Air France and KLM have over the years used Fokker 70s on servcies into LCY, the type is still permitted. Mark L is absolutely correct, it is likely that A318s and A319s could be certified at soe point, even with the current parking arrangements although plans will be drawn up eventually for alterations to parking.

The DO328Jet is also certified for the LCY and has been used in the past by scheduled operators. I’m trying to think if there are anymore…see this page for all aircraft types..

Ahaa I see, thanks, thought I was wrong 😮

Congratulations to both for your first landings, and may there be many more!! 😀

Am I correct in saying that ILS landings in FS 2004 only work for the cessna and one of the other light aircraft, therefore the ILS does not work for the boeing’s??

Does anybody know what happened to USMC EA-6B crew (Ashby and Schweizer, Raney and Seagraves?) who has managed to cut-off a support wire for an cable car in Italian Alps near Cavalese? Were they charged with manslaughter or negligent homicide? How did they end?

Crikey I remember that, I read somewhere that they were all charged initially, however, only Ashby and Schweitzer actually faced trial. But they were both ‘let off’ for some reason or another, something to do with the maps not showing the cable wires, can’t quite remember. Though I believe the two men were court marshalled a second time for destroying the onboard camera of the incident. They were both dismissed from service, and Ashby got a prison term of 6 months, but was relesed after 4 for good behaviour. I think the US government was ordered to pay the familes who lost relatives in the incident.

I personally don’t think what the pilot and nav got was justifiable for killing 20 people lives. They should of both had jail sentences or something, buy hey I do not know how the American military justice system works.

Aren’t jets (bar the 146) banned from LCY because of noise abatement rules? I maybe wrong

Great pictures by the way 🙂

Thanks for the response’s guys, much appreciated :), thought it might be a bit of a dead thread

I believe that the Vigilant, the largest combat ship of the service, is Canadian-built

Thats interesting i will look into that cheers.

Thanks for the sites JonS, just found the official NCG ( what would i do without google :p ) Very imformative indeed, quite an impressive array of ships for a small island nation.

In the better pic of the Vigilant on the official NCG site, has it got a helicopter pad on the back? I did see an alouette heli (i think) flying around our hotel one afternoon, (see picture, again not very good, took it at the last minute before it flew off) Though on the site it only says the NCG has an dornier and defender. The helicopter might be from another force exercising in the area??

    Thanks again for your replies
