Well the Su-47 used Su-27 components for cost reasons. Its RCS was substantially reduced, however.
If it weighs as much as an Su-27 they need to stop right now and think again.
Maybe thats why MiG have announced work on a new lightweight fighter…
Well, Lyulka’s AL-41F was designed for Mach 1.6+ supercruise. They’ve built and flown prototypes, which seem to work ok but which have a very low lifetime.
The traditional Soviet approach, as seen in the AL-31F, was to get the performance needed at the expense of engine life. Over the years since the AL-31F was introduced, its TBO and lifetime were brought up to acceptable standards.
In contrast the US has tended to derate engines slightly from their maximum potential to maximise the life of the engine, with increases in performance once it was possible without sacrificing reliability.
Russia has the software and expertise to calculate RCS. They have experience in RCS reduction using RAM to treat hot spots, and have designed several reduced-RCS aircraft.
I would say they could indeed design the shape of a stealthy fighter. However, I don’t believe that the required accuracy and quality of manufacturing is achievable without a lot of investment in tooling, etc. They are also lacking in experience of composite materials.
Hmmm so S-300 uses AESA phased array does it?
I don’t think so…
jiminy…

Yes, that model has the lift jet in the nose.
If MiG can secure the order it will, along with the 16 MiG-29K for India, allow them to restart the MiG-29 production line with the improved MiG-29M level, which would improve chances of further sales.
I think the Algerian order is a mixture of MiG-29M1/M2 and MiG-AT though, not 50 MiG-29s.
No, they are for MiG-29M1/M2 which is a much better airplane.
Indeed, its simply stupid to say they are mostly psed.
No, the Klyon-PS certainly had designation capability for missiles, though not bombs. In fact, it doesn’t have the ability to locate designated targets, so it can’t necessarily be used *except* through self-designation.
Apparently Algeria is close to signing a deal for 50 MiG-29M1/M2s and MiG-AT jet trainers along with Il-103 piston trainers.
Algeria is also said to be looking at fitting the Zhuk-ME to their MiG-23s… I would have thought the existing MiG-29s would be a better candidate, but thats what they say.
Its so its one better than the F-16 …
Actually Klen has designation capability, but can only be used with missiles (Kh-25ML, Kh-29L) due to its restricted field of view. Kaira has a much greater field of view below the aircraft, allowing laser guided bombs to be used as well.
