Piece of string going around the center of the paper and fed inside through a small hole. Pull the string, paper gets torn in the center and airflow makes sure that it disappears.
There appears to be a similar piece of string on the first photo, from the center of the paper to the bottom right of the plexiglass dome.
Would that be the same ‘Chalky’ White who worked as VC10 Base Sqn flight manager at Brize Norton between 1968 and 1972?
There are some photos of TB382 in these two threads, but none in her gate guard function I think:

That second thread also explains what happened to the airframe (from post #8)
Isnt PK624 the one which used to be outside RAF Halton?

Bold ones are flyers, RW382 was lost in 1998. So all but one are still around, that’s not bad. Nice photos.

I like the painting Cloudpainter! What’s the background, Wisley?
It would be nice if the RAF would paint an aircraft in BOAC colours before they retire them. Somehow I doubt that will happen though.
Am i right in thinking the tail from the Dawsons Field aircraft was later salvaged by BOAC for spares, and significant parts ended up in another airframe…?
As far as I know you’re right. You can see from the photo that the rear fuselage rests on the ground, the horizontal tail never touched the ground and was therefore not damaged. If you read the bit on this page under ‘Doppler’: http://www.vc10.net/Memories/radio_development.html there is some substantiation for that statement. As for G-ASGO, they may very well have re-used parts of that airframe as it was only lightly damaged but I have not found anything yet to support that. By that time the Standard VC10s were just leaving service so perhaps they didn’t need that many spare parts.
I would do my best, but since that isn’t / wasn’t one of our fora I am not sure what you expect of us.
Moggy
Moggy, the link in my previous post points to the correct page on this site. The ‘forum.airforces’ bit comes from a previous server, it is this same board.
I found the plans for it, I’m sure it will look great when finished! I am just naturally suspicious of large aeroplanes spending a long time outside I guess, that may be just me of course. 🙂
Correct. There are plans to have it flying in June, I don’t know anything about longer term plans.
Bear in mind that this is a one-off homebuilt aircraft that has quite a few hours on its airframe already. There will come a time when safety dictates that it would be better to keep it grounded. Unless off course she undergoes a thorough restoration, with new skins, new spars, new….. oh, alright, let’s not go there 😀

am guessing some kind of slang for electronic version but anybody know anything more ?
It’s an ALBM carrier version of the VC10. For more info I would recommend getting yourself a copy, the author did a great job on it and it describes a lot of interesting variants that not many people know about.

The link doesn’t work when you click it, so here it is again:
A shame that the video doesn’t show the very slow rudder turn they did at the end of the display before landing.
Just my €0,02 worth but I’d leave the 80-200 at home, unless it offers more light compared to the 75-300 lens. With the 28-80 and the 75-300 you’ve got the whole spectrum covered so why carry around an extra lens? Now if the 80-200 is a F2.8 lens then it’s a different story but still you could argue that if you’re going to be using it on sunny days the 75-300 will probably be sufficient and offer more magnification.
Which VC10 section would that be then?
