Indeed it does say that! One of the links above gives the total number constructed in the USSR as 27 GSTs.
Oh, I dunno, pretty much anything can look good with a coat of camo on it! 🙂
That’s not the point of camouflage you know! 😀
I think it looks best in some flashy scheme. The yellow and white one which you can see photos of on that site looks a lot less appealing somehow than the all-over silver one. The silver paint scheme accentuates its lines more I think.
Pretty sure I dropped a biggun about a year ago when I swore blind – ON THIS FORUM! – that I’d seen a civvie reg VC-10 at Cairo airport three years ago.
Numerous folks, who really do know their stuff about VC-10’s, came back and said, nope, no civvie 10’s out there any more, must’ve been an IL-62.
No chance, says I. I know what a 10 looks like, and I know what a Classic looks like. Dug my heels right in.
But on reflection I really do think I got it wrong…. 😮
Aaaahhhh, justice at last!!! 😀 😀
I must’ve done that a few times myself, but I cannot remember what the subject of the misinformation was I’m afraid.
Melvyn keeping quiet……….
Oh dear, he hasn’t crashed already has he 😮
Probably still celebrating 😀 😀
How about a support group for those who have been slagged off? 😀
What? Has he sold his first guitar??? 😉
Most Hermes’ had nosewheel gear.
Oh dear, looks like I got my Handley-Pages mixed up! 😮
I’ll go and stand in a corner now :p
I think it’s too early in the 50s for a Vanguard. It looks like there are two Viscounts and possibly the “Britannia” is actually a Handley Page Hermes.
It looks suspiciously like a Vanguard though!
I don’t think the other one is a Hermes, it doesn’t appear to have a tailwheel undercarriage. Britannia seems more likely.
Edit: Looks like a Comet at the top left.
East Fortune has the nosegear assembly of the Brabazon, as I found out last year.
Great to see the Rearwin complete and fully airworthy! A first flight yesterday would’ve been great but I understand the reasoning behind this not happening. I had realised that Steve P. flying it on its first outing would have broken a few rules here and there, so without it having flown before yesterday, there was obviously no way he would get his hands on the controls! (Can he even see over the instrument panel? Or is that what the booster seat was for?)
Looking forward to the photos of the actual first flight now. I’m sure it won’t be long!
Still works for me!
Steve is past Hawaii by now. Although forecast winds are not as good as what he needs, the decision has been made and on he goes. At least he’ll be able to land somewhere in the US, or so they say, now that after transferring fuel from the wings to the booms the team has an idea of the amount of fuel left.

What strikes me is that they are announcing he broke the ‘longest distance to landing’ record yesterday. I would think that one would be in the hands of the Voyager, instead of still with the B-52 crew as is being announced. Anybody with a thought about this?
Nearing Calcutta, India now at 46000 ft. He’s actually past the halfway point already!
This Notam was active in the Santa Maria Oceanic FIR yesterday:

I was just wondering, if he is continually cruise climbing, shouldn’t he be higer than 46000ft now? I see that he was nearer to 50000ft earlier.
Looks like they have all turned into thumbnails now. I doubt if it can be implemented, but I wouldn’t mind an having an option in the user CP where you can select how you want to view attachments, i.e. full size, thumbnails or links. Also it might be better to have the full size images (either from link of thumbnail) open in a different window.
Just my 2 cents….
