Actually, I’m trying to find somewhere that still has ‘The Flight Of The Blenheim’ video in stock. Anyone?
I believe it was considered a few years ago to bring the CWH Lanc over here for a season/part-season, but they eventually decided against it.
I think it’s safe to say that it’ll be a cold day in hell before our Lanc heads in the opposite direction! 😮
Nope, none of the R1 suppliers seem to have it listed. Here’s a link to it on Amazon.com, anyway. If anyone finds it available of course, do let us know!

So much for my theories! POC IS available on DVD, but only Region 1 it seems, 3 discs for about fifty dollars, but only from Amazon.COM, so even if you’re multi-region like me, you might not be able to actually buy it. Play.com don’t have it listed in their R1’s-I’ll keep looking!
POC has been available on video for ages, either in a double pack or on two separate tapes-each tape being put together into one long piece minus the episode credits each time. This wasn’t brilliantly done-the editing jumps a tiny bit here and there-and there’s also a comedy ‘beep’ on top of the single ‘f’ word that appeared in the series. (In the brilliant episode 4)
I’m not sure if there are any plans for this ever to be put out on DVD, though if it is, I suspect it will be a hasty transfer on a budget label-it’s just not considered a ‘seller’ for the big guns to put it out.
Good grief, when it was first transmitted (Sunday nights, remember?) I taped it on Betamax!!! 😮 😮 😮
Pardon?! :p
not to be recommended, on my last visit, I stood beneath the starboard wingtip, without ear defenders, while the engines were run at full chat.
LOL, wuss!!! 😀 😀 😀 😀
Just a thought-it was mentioned what was the point of making ‘611’s radios work again? Well, why not? I’d think that of a seven man Lanc crew, the wireless op is possibly the most unsung, so why not enable those that remain-or Joe Public-to sit at a Lanc’s radio station, stick on some headphones and maybe call up East Kirby tower? What fun! 😀
LOL @ Shorty01!!! 😀
‘Photo capable phones’.
Ah, but who has a phone capable camera?!
I’m still using my trusty TR1154/55, though I’ll admit it’s a git to get out of your rucksack when it rings in the middle of town!!! 😉
By the way, a few years ago ‘Derel’ was advertising signed first edition hardbacks of ‘Piece Of Cake’ in the small ads in FlyPast; I guess he either had a huge surplus stock cluttering up his house, or he was very short of money, though I don’t recall it costing me very much!
He replied to my letter at great length, signed my first ed of POC which I now treasure, and also threw in a signed copy of one of his other books for free! A heck of a nice guy, a great writer who didn’t deserve all the fack that came his way after POC came out in print and then on TV.
Did anyone else get one of these signed first eds at the time?
I think I’m right in saying that the surviving runway-which isn’t the main one-is on what is now a neighbouring farm? Certainly, temporary tracking had to be put down to allow the Lanc to be towed across to use it.
Thanks for the heads-up, Cattermole! That’s one added to my Crimbo list straight away! 😀
Two great posts there, gentlemen!
Nope!
If you want to look at a Halifax, go to Hendon, or Canada even. If you want to look at a Stirling, pray!
Let’s NOT all get into that ‘replica or not’ argument again, most of our personal views are well known, and whenever they happen to be repeated, that shouldn’t be a cue for the same old arguments over and over, eh? 😉
Wonderfully put, Steve.
Trumper makes a good point about getting some ‘dead’ airframes back to ground running order; an oft-mentioned on here grudge of mine is the Me410 that’s now tucked up gathering dust at Cosford; I used to absolutely LOVE seeing this baby running her engines up (Always in the drizzle, it seemed!) on show day mornings at St Athan; same goes for the FW190 now stuck rather uselessly in the Bomber Hall at Hendon.
(Not sure what Halifax he meant though-the Hendon one isn’t going to be running any engines, and the Airfix one at Elvington would go backwards if it spun those props in anger!!!) 😉
