Our elegant fighter buffer is quite correct, at no point did ‘611’s main wheels come even close to lifting off. It was interesting to see a Lanc get up a little speed, and just stay there, trundling along a while, with no intention of going anywhere. 😀
Mustangs? They’re ‘orses int they?! 😀
…or thse of us that can’t help with footage can at least help by ‘bumping’ the topic when needed.
For me, avoiding RIAT has nothing to do with the airframe content generally or it’s no doubt very commendable charity aims-I simply don’t enjoy the huge scale of the thing, the massive traffic problems, the huge costs, the cesspit bogs, etc etc.
WW2 left overs indeed!
…and the plural of thong is of course, knickers! 😀
Hmm, as an expert in such matters, I have to agree with our lovely Spitfire polisher there, looks like a black thong under the white strides. Tut!
Not sure if it’s the correct black thong to wear under that shade of white though, I’ll have to look it up in ‘Camoflage Schemes For Crumpet Vol 9’.
Got any more like this?!!! 😉
What, those old Yank things come with wheels, too?! 😀
Many happy returns, Cattermole!
-Squadron Leader Rex, your new C.O.
😉
Martin Baker’s Dozen.
Or just plain ‘Bob’. 😀
Yes, to be fair that does sound good, but I’m afraid the BIG shows just don’t do anything for me anymore, apart from leave me very skint, and then in a traffic jam for six hours…and just how many grey F-16’s can even a parrafin head appreciate?! 😮
Yeah that’s it, great, thanks!
(A wooden ‘Spitfire’ with a car engine…tut, whatever next?!)
I’ve sadly lost the pictures, but I used to have shots of Clive Du Cross’ wooden ‘Spitfire’ looking a bit sad after busting it’s gear and little 2-blade prop on arrival for Great Warbirds at Wroughton the one year.
Gotta admit, it would take a Squadron of Lancs doing the fandango to get me back to RIAT these days-endless bloomin’ jets, traffic and expense… 🙁
Probably the little Badminton air day, early 90’s or so, a glorious sunny day at a tiny little tree surrounded airstrip, and all of a sudden a Lancaster that was looking twice as big as usual appears over the trees and does it’s display-it looked brill. 😉
