RE: Pathe News Footage
…if you DO get it working okay for you, the results for ‘Vulcan’ are fun, too!
RE: Pathe News Footage
That’s even MORE annoying-it’s been brilliant throughout for me, some others here, and some friends elsewhere online. Can anyone help with this? Maybe something to do with a browser setting? Or perhaps it IS the site, and it’s just happening to random people-what does the error message actually say guys?
RE: Pathe News Footage
That’s damn strange-I’ve just tried it and it’s fine. Click on the ‘add to basket’ to the right of the clip you want, it will come up and tell you it’s been added, then it goes back to the search results page. Click ‘basket’ up above, and you should get a page that looks a bit like an invoice, showing your basket contents and lots of ‘£0.00’ where the previews are free. You have to click what country you’re in from the list on the left, then click ‘proceed’ where you’ll need to fill in a couple of details.
Can anyone more computer literate than I please help Neilly out here?
RE: Hendon B-17
Ha, that’s funny!!!
‘Tis sadly true, the lighting in Hendon has left a lot to be desired for a long time.
RE: Pathe News Footage
Example-
Type ‘Lancaster’ into the search box, hit ‘enter’. Choose ‘King Visits The Dam Raiders’ by clicking ‘add to basket’ over on the right there. It adds it to your basket, and then takes you back to the search results page where you came from-then, click on ‘basket’ up at the top, in the yellow bar, and you should be okay to follow everything through from there.
RE: Pathe News Footage
Neilly, once you’ve got what you want in your basket-not too many at a time mind, or they’ll take years to download if your connection is anything like mine-you’ll need to go through their ‘checkout’ procedure-just fill in your name/email etc, then it will take you through to a screen where you can click on each of the files you wanted, and start to download them. Download times vary-a couple of minutes to about fifteen, based on my experience so far.
Remember the previews are free, but are also low res-BUT, they’re still worth the effort!
There’s no sound on the S-Sugar 100 ops one, in case anyone is wondering!
RE: Pathe News Footage
Not bad, is it?!
I’ve been trying to find anything on the formation of the then ‘RAF Historic Flight’, the young BBMF of course, but not much joy yet. I did see about three seconds of PA474 from the sixties on one item though!
RE: 558 hopes dashed ?
I’ve got to be fair, I actually think those are good and fair replies, and not just a quick fob-off job. And, put like that, I’m not going to argue with them.
I guess it’s just the sad case that certain aircraft are forever going to be difficult in the extreme to fly in private hands, and that’s that. However much we all want to see the Vulcan-or indeed, ANY Vulcan-fly again, we perhaps have to face it that you’re talking about climbing Mount Everest…and hoping to jump from the summit to the Moon.
RE: FlyPast article on airfield dumpsites
While I also wouldn’t want to attack a magazine that I’m very fond of, I think it’s absolutely TERRIBLE that everything Steve listed has not been reported here; so much for ‘all the news’, eh?
RE: Well worth a quick surf (British understatement)
Read the topics page better Mogs-I beat you to it mate!
Good site though, eh?
RE: Pathe News Footage
PS, the site is really new, and has just been nationally publicised, so it can get very busy-stick with it though, it’s worth it!
RE: FlyPast article on airfield dumpsites
…but, there are no ‘crates of new Spitfires/Lancasters/whatever’ buried out there.
An area I’d like to see investigated would be what is to be found at the bottom of the channel/North Sea etc-although of course you’re talking MAJOR searching, funding, salvage etc etc, I’d have thought that if you wanted a Stirling, that’s where to look! There must be so many wrecks to be looked over down there, and I’d sure as damn rather see a few original Stirling wrecks raised and turned into one nice display example, or likewise Halifaxes, than either have nothing at all, or lame replicas. Still, just money-wise, it’s fantasy land I know.
RE: FlyPast article on airfield dumpsites
Sadly, a lot seems to have vanished from the pages of ‘Flypast’ over the years, though I guess things have to change now and then to keep it fresh. I lost some interest in taking it regularly when Ken Delve took over as the editor, and there was a huge and immediate shift in emphasis put on historic jet aircraft, which was fair enough as so many were being restored and flown at the time, but, it seemed a bit cosy what with KD being involved with the Canberra and all, and just too much forme at the time. But, I suppose historic jet fans loved it! Also, FP gets criticised for being a bit Spit/Lanc/Hurri heavy, also a fair comment, thoughg they have to please the masses in order to shift issues, don’t they?
RE: Why it is so different? Lancaster and Halifax
I thought the Yank term ‘BUFF’ was used in relation to the B-52? Now, that IS an aircraft that lumbers about the place-whereas the Lanc flies like a bird. (Well okay the wings don’t flap, (much) but you know what I mean!!!)
RE: Why it is so different? Lancaster and Halifax
Eh? You drag up an ancient post and have a pop at me, when actually, if you read what I saiud, they BOTH deserve their place in the hall of fame!!!
Tut!
