RE: Slipstream!!
You really want to get out more, do you know that?! 😉
RE: The “Falco” outside.
Absolutely, well said. Nice pics, too, and again, it’s like looking at a different machine when you see it like this!
RE: Lancaster Night Runs.
LOL!!!:D
RE: Lancaster NX622 engine run
Absolutely, these precious machines must ALL be brought indoors before it’s to late!
Sadly I can’t see us seeing 2 Lancs flying together here for a long, long time, if at all. The CWH just don’t seem to want to bring theirs over here, where it would be very well greeted, and where a much higher percentage of any given crowd it was flying over would know (and appreciate!) what it actually was!!! And of course, there’s no question of ‘474 heading to the US. But if the CWH machine did come over, I can well imagine a lot of cooperation from the BBMF re. the two operating together at a lot of events for a year-it would be SUCH a special occasion.
NX611 seems to be staying where she is, happy trundling around that little bit of East Kirkby, and in a way, perhaps operating machines like this on the ground only is a commendable way to go in some cases. The rare plane is at hugely reduced risk from crashes, will last so much longer, etc etc. Of course flying is best, BUT, I can think of a LOT of airframes I’d love to see at least as operational as ‘611, rather than gathering the proverbial dust in a badly lit museum, with their tails up on ridiculous and pointless budgie perches….
RE: It’s the RAF over that Dam again!
‘Guy Gibson Was ‘Ere’!
RE: Hendon’s 109 outside.
Teriffic shots there, thanks! How different they look outside, eh? I’ve said this often here before, but I remember well in the early 80’s the sight and sound of the Me410 and twin seater FW 190 running their engines early in the mornings on airshow days at St Athan! Where are they now? At Cosford and Hendon, lifeless, like ‘Black 6’, too. ‘Shame’ doesn’t even begin to cover it really, does it?
Are there any more shots of Hendon residents pre-internment out there?
RE: WWII Flight Sims – what’s yours?
I think that if you want to sit at your PC for 5 hours and ‘fly’ a 747 to New York in real time, Microsoft Flight Sim is your choice, but otherwise, go elsewhere!
Just downloaded myself a lovely contra-prop Seafire, and I’ve been having good fun with a Tempest and Typhoon, too! Dumped my Stirling, though-flew like a brick!
RE: Lancaster NX622 engine run
A wonderful thought!
RE: WWII Flight Sims – what’s yours?
I’ve just downloaded myself the beta-test version of the Wellington X-more good fun! I might lose a couple of my Beaufighter variants though, I don’t see the need for having four of them and it makes more room for the Wimpey files…ah, choices, choices!!!
RE: Lancaster NX622 engine run
Looks great! Couldn’t agree more about the planes sitting quietly thing though-how I wish some of the things in Hendon could even see some daylight, let alone anything do else!
RE: Why it is so different? Lancaster and Halifax
One was absolutely stunning at it’s job, one was just fairly adequate. My name will tell you which I think is which! BUT, both types, along with many others, all belong in the ‘Without Whom’ Hall Of Fame…
RE: Lancaster Night Runs.
Oh yes, or lets just pass a law whereby the arrogant, selfish idiots who feel the need to have six whole feet of windbreak-protected flightline all to themselves can in fact have the very same windbreaks rolled up, lightly oiled, and shoved…
RE: WWII Flight Sims – what’s yours?
I agree that some sims can have elements of tastelessness to them, though I don’t consider my personal favoured one to be one of these. For me, it’s more about the ‘flying’ anyway-getting a Gee Bee off the ground without killing myself, tight moves in a Spit, getting anywhere at all in a Defiant!
RE: Lancaster Night Runs.
Nice post, Moggy. Too many people think the be-all and end-all of these things is to get it on their little video camera, to watch later. What about the experience?
RE: WWII Flight Sims – what’s yours?
Yes, there’s a Ju87 in the downloads plane pack for the game, though it’s one I’ve personally not flown much so I can’t speak much for that one, or whether it screams or not!
I’ve just had a look, and ‘Fighter Squadron’ is currently only £8.99 on Amazon, which makes it even better for what you get for your money. Add to that an hour or so to download the (self installing) plane pack, and you will have probably the finest selection of WW2 aircraft you’ll ever see all in one sim! There are a couple of quibbles raised by reviewers on Amazon-one is that the online fraternity is a bit, well, up itself, and that I’d agree with-but the game can be made to be big enough, and has a good enough A.I, that you don’t need other people.
