I was re-watching the old Discovery Channel docu on the Flight the other day (I’m missing the first ten mins or so- anyone got a complete copy?) and in that Gerbil was unpacking a recuperator, and I was impressed at stuff like that being fitted, just to make her innards look even more the part.

(Not so keen on the sequence of her skidding about on the runway and damaging her undercarriage, though!)

    £2000! 😮

This talk makes me wonder, what if anything is the Lanc ‘missing’ now? Photos of her interior look amazingly well equiped these days, surely there can’t be a lot if any original equipment missing now?

Yes, a teardrop-shaped thing on the underside of the fuselage roughly under the mid-upper turret. It was made from perspex, with the rear third often left unpainted. See here-

Oh yes, the BAE thing sounds familiar now. Odd, though- surely a newly made blister could be vouched-for condition-wise a lot more than an original? Or wasn’t that the issue? Shame, anyhow.

I think the idea/wish to have an H2S blister has been around for years, but something was stopping it happening, wasn’t it?

Seriously, a Haynes manual on the Lanc? That would be brilliant!

I remember first seeing the Lancaster Manual as a boy (I was that kind of kid!) and being astonished at the seeming miles of chain that ran from the throttle, prop and fuel c**k levers out to the wings! 😮

Absolutely, they are really appreciated. Dare I be cheeky and hope we’ll have more as the service progresses? Some of her in the paint shop would be awesome!

Many of these pics had already been seen elsewhere as linked to by Fluffy, but it was nice to hear some other details and to see some more up to date new pics, too. Cheers!

Re. the rivets, the Lanc spent all of 1978 on the ground, due to extensive wing rivet corrosion.

    Looking great there Paul!

BBMF aircraft are looking so much better for losing the high-gloss paints of previous years- the last scheme on the Lanc looked absolutely amazing for this, and I hope that her new paint will be a similar satin/matt finish, too?

In my ignorance I’m always amazed at how roundels are painted on with bits of masking tape etc etc, and not huge great ready-made stencils!

There are a few other sources for an engine coming up shortly so all is not lost

Can you elaborate on that please?

Well, it can’t be a bad thing if all the staff from Hendon are having a meeting.

Booked the local phone box, have they?!
