Cheers both!
My favourite ‘goof’ from POC was during the scene when CH3- sorry, I mean ‘Christopher Hart’- is bringing his Spit down supposedly with no prop; on my (Betamax!) recordings of the original transmission, you could just see, in a long shot through some trees, the spin of the prop still happily whirring away! This was much less evident on my shop-bought VHS version though; it will be interesting to see if it shows on the DVD!
LOL! Moggy- in print, and as brilliantly portrayed by Neil Dudgeon- is a wonderful character.
My DVD arrived with no fuss from Benson’s, and a month today, I’ll be able to look at it!!!
This seems a good place to say that I’ve just treated myself to Peter Vacher’s book on R4118 for all of a fiver second hand (much better than paying twenty quid for a book that size!)
Nice reading, with some excellent photos, though not really detailed enough about the restoration for me. Too many chapters on the Indian red tape, and not enough on the nuts and bolts!
Beautiful example of a lovely breed, though.
but fair is fair. what about these 4 men training up for the jobs
Nah, I’m not that kind of boy!
Not a bad pic, not all that curvy though…
This thread is rubbish; needs some pictures of the ladies in question. 😀 😉
Sent you a PM, Bruce.
Thanks Bruce- I’ll see what I can find out.
Yes, the original Orpheus is little more than a pile of dust and turbine blades now!
Well, I asked Bill what they actually want, and he answered thus-
‘The top of our ‘wants list’ is an Orpheus 701 to replace the 100 series
we already have. The 100 will fit in the hole but it’s not true to the
original. Naturally, the 701 will have to be capable of ground running
as is our 100.
We need cockpit instruments and switches, we need some bits of Bloctube
control runs and any spare 3/32 snap or avdel rivets that are going.
that’s about all for the aircraft bits. Oh, and a spare Gnat F1 fin
would be a nice thing to have lying about.’
So if anyone here thinks they could help with any of this, PLEASE let me know!
Bruce- I don’t know, but I’ll go ask!
Any idea what languages they do understand?
Erm…Serbian or Croatian? I don’t really know!
Lancman – MAM could use some F.1 bits too?
Ooh, have they a Bluebird K7 too then?! 😀 But seriosuly, there’d be a lot of airframe parts left over once K7 had been shopping, so maybe a mutual deal would be good…
Oh, hey, no probs mate.
Now, who here knows anything about that Gnat, or speaks the appropriate foreign? The thing is decaying fast, and could be a very valuable source of spares for K7. Can anyone help? Contact has been attempted via phone and email to the museum, but literally no one seems to speak English there!
Apparently there is a Gnat F1 outside a museum in Belgrade- does anyone know of an English speaking contact re. this?
As a matter of fact, when I made my ‘back in the lake’ comment some time ago, it was in the depths of the Lottery wrangling, and was a sentiment said by Gina Campbell herself in the media!
Anyway, K7 has moved on- she WILL be rebuilt, and she WILL be a lot more original than you might think- a lot more so than many of the ‘Spitfires’ that are flying around, that’s for sure!
I certainly DO support Bill Smith- he’s a great guy, and it’s only physical distance that has prevented my from volunteering to go up and help out with the old girl, be it drilling rivets, making the tea, sweeping the workshop…
As a matter of fact, I actually designed a DVD cover that is being sold to help with funding, so n’er! 😀
For those that don’t know, K7 is rapdily being taken apart, and is very nearly down to her bare spaceframe already; 5 years after she was recovered, water is still coming out every now and then!

PA474’s back to bare metal this time around is she?
