Any reason why Elvington’s Friday 13th was not selected?
‘Cos it’s not a real Halifax.
*runs*
Actually, I’d be surprised if TG could continue after this- how on earth could you have the Challenges, the Races, the Power Laps, Clarkson yelling ‘POWER!’ etc etc?

Was gutted to hear this last night- we love Top Gear here.
BBC just showed live aerial views of the crash site and the wreckage at Elvington- looked grim.
Apparently, he’d done his two record runs and was making a third run for the cameras- a bit of a no-no in record breaking land, really. TV are already essentially saying ‘what the hell was a TV presenter doing going at 300mph?’.
No further details about his condition are being released at the request of the family, which rings alarms bells for me; Lord knows what state he is in.
Get well soon, Hamster.

Peter- the previous taxi runs that you refer to weren’t public events mate, that’s the difference.
Beautiful photos, thanks! 😀
Well done, Chatters- I do so wish they’d post him back to the BBMF, no one flew PA474 quite like he did.
Did ‘474 appear today as well after all?
Mind you, I can’t help but think that NX611 looks just a tad like a very big Airfix model now, with that new paint job.
Surely they’re extremely well settled at Conningsby, though? Is there any real point/advantage to such a move?
‘There goes yet another Spitfire, one of the more bog standard models…’
This all reminds me of similar discussions about the use of the Confederate flag on the roof of the General Lee in the recent (and poo) Dukes Of Hazzard movie. In the end the flag was on the car, but with a bit of a get-out scene about it; in this case though I can’t see how they’d be able to do anything except use the name, or not.
Yes, I too noticed the guy and the over-sized tin of Humbrol!!! What gives???
Well last time they ran NX611 along the runway, they got her over to it with some temporary metal tracking- see the Prime Time Video ‘Just Jane’.
It could old ‘an ‘undred and ten ton’, apparently.
Is there enough runway in good enough nick for ‘474 to land though? I know what’s left is good enough for ‘611 to trundle along, but is it deemed operational enough for the Lanc to actual fly in and out from? Surely, ‘474 would have landed there previously for opportunities with her sister by now if she was able?
Wow, this is great- it would have been a shame if she never got to trundle down that old runway at near take-off speeds again, after the success of the ‘Night Flight’ runs a few years back.
Glad to read too that it’s Mike Chatterton who will be at the wheel again- absolutely no offence intended, but I do worry about the age of a couple of EK’s Lanc trundlers!
Fred will have to lay down his ‘undred and ten ton’ tracking again, too. 😉
So since my last post, No.101 above, basically, nearly everyone is agreeing that yes, the Vulcan is wanted back so badly because of it’s sheer spectacle, and not because of any real supposed historical value.
Most kids today will know little to nothing about WW2, or the current Iraq mess-up, let alone the Falklands campaign or the Cold War, and they’ll care even less; any pretence that the Vulcan is coming back on educational grounds is just that, an utter pretence.
See, y’all just want it back because it’s stonking. 😀
The Vulcan is totally eclipsed by the service life of the Canberra
I agree entirely- people can say what they like, but the Vulcan is being pushed back into the air well past it’s sell-by date because it’s a magnificent spectacle to behold, and many people refuse to let that be a happy memory, and NOT because of any historical value it has.
I’ve loved it in the air in the past, and I’ve given money and will hopefully enjoy seeing it in the air again, but all this rubbish about it being historically significant enough to warrant the massive costs, even to date, has got to stop; be honest people, you just want it flying again BECAUSE!
