I’m sure this ‘York wings’ thing has come up on here before, and I think it was disproven at the time?
BBMF boys?
And yeah, the increased size rudders were there from new.
. In fact, I believe PA474 has York outer wings!
Erm, since when?!
Very nice.
Though speaking with something of a bias, I can’t help looking at a York and thinking ‘Ooh, Lancaster parts!’
…or the inclination, sadly.
Ah, I see. Godspeed to the old girl and to you great guys, then.
Lovely sight, although the poor thing needs a wash!
Agreed with Moocher though- waste of an airframe.
What’s up with PA474, BTW?
Lovely photos there.
What happened to Paul Milikin? Did he not fly XH558 last, and thus surely he’d be the better choice for flying it again?
I thoroughly enjoyed the views from inside the Lanc (no bombsight fitted though- removed just for the camera today boys?) but the exterior shots of the actual fly-by were not so hot- seems to me every time the BBMF go over Buck House, the BBC never show it all that well!
Enjoyed the little bit of her in the hangar beforehand, too.
I’ve never been a fan of The Dyson Display Team- their routine sucks.
But seriously- are we saying here then that the mighty BBMF goofed up?!!!
Bravo!
Well, I’d certainly NOT want to attend an airshow where I knew that a fast paraffin burner was going to be deliberately flying that close to the ground, thank you very much.
I’ve got about 15 years worth of FP in binders, but stopped buying it some years ago now; what with an (at the time) vast shift into covering (it seemed) ruddy Canberra’s every single month, and a whole editorial style that I didn’t like much anymore (Ken Delve, I think) I just lost interest in it. Couple that with the advent of the internet, and there would have to be a VERY good article in it to make me want to buy it anymore. The news was always my favourite part of it, and the net just makes that all but utterly redundant.
I’ll still pick it up every now and then for a quick browse in Smiths, and I might actually buy an issue- perhaps one every two years or so! (Particularly if there’s a good Lancaster article, of course)
Absolutely outstanding photos, of a job very well done; what a terrible shame that such a sight is not available to us here in the UK.
I believe the Stirling was highly rollable, too?
Just can’t picture the things going inverted, can you?!
Somewhere between average and dusty, last time I was there. Certainly years ago, they seemed to be cleaned more regularly- I can still recall being astonished that S-Sugar was cleaned by a bloke walking the wing with a broom!!!
