What ARE ‘the updates…bring encouraging news’ re. the Blenheim, then?

I don’t know much about him, but Brendan strikes me just as a heck of a character, with a good personality to ‘front’ the show; clearly he’s not an expert in everything, which is why we have the brilliant John Romain there, and why we will no doubt have Sally B and the CWH Lanc crew there in time as well. All the right people, doing the right jobs.

I so wish that C4 would put ‘Spitfire Ace’- and then this as well of course- out on DVD.

Answered my own question, at the bottom of this page-

Yes, the feature-length AW pilot episode was re-edited, including the addition of a purely superfluous naughty word starting with an ‘f’, just for the home video market.

The ‘real’ AW was later turned back into an ordinary Bell 222B, which later crashed. But does anyone know what became of the ‘real’ Blue Thunder?

    *nostalgic glow*

Ah, ‘Airwolf’ and ‘Blue Thunder’, what dreadful series those both were! AW would usually feature 40 minutes of rubbish followed by them fetching ‘The Lady’ at the end, to tie-up whatever that week’s lame story had been. Usually that then consisted of multi-spliced, very familiar stock footage of the one and only real airworthy AW, mixed with footage of a large-scale radio control model they also used.

BT was so bad, I don’t think it even got as far as having a whole series!?

Oh heck yes, I remember about the major service being put back a year now, silly me! Thank you!

Crikey, even in bits in a hangar she looks mean…

    Name this bomber?

    Hmm.

    How about ‘Bob’? 😀

“I’d be surprised if they let just anyone ‘have a go’ anyway!”, is not quite the same as saying they wouldn’t.

    Jeez, pedantic or what!

Anyways, moving on, I think I’m right in saying that Dave Mallon never got to take off or land the Spit, for insurance reasons- I’d be willing to bet that will also be the case for the bomber pilots, with them ‘just'(!) taking the controls once the beasts have been taken into the air by their regular pilots.

    Lucky sods…

‘Plus, I’d be surprised if they let just anyone ‘have a go’ anyway!’

‘I doubt any civvy would get a chance to fly it anyway because it’s MOD property, let alone the other potential reasons you listed.’

    That’s exactly what I said, wasn’t it?!

I wish things like this and ‘Spitfire Ace’ would be released on DVD.

The BBMF aren’t in a position to lend their Lanc out to anyone- remember, every hour of it’s flying time each year is very strictly managed, and there just wouldn’t be the required spare hours available for the filming. Plus, I’d be surprised if they let just anyone ‘have a go’ anyway!

Fancy mistaking NX611 for PA474, tut tut!

    Well, I thoroughly enjoyed that!

Yes, I too thought that they were a bit quick to dismiss the Stirling and the Halifax, especially with the Hallybag being such a worthy second-placed bomber after the Lanc.

They did kind of make it sound as if the young crew would be all alone with Sally B, though clearly that won’t be the case!

I wonder if they will get to have a trundle around in NX611? Would be nice to see the prospective pilots getting a feel on her first- but maybe the insurance/small space at East Kirkby would preclude that, though.

Great to see John Romain on there.

Not so many veterans and their stories on there just yet, but I seem to remember the first episode of Spitty Ace started off in a similar way, concentrating more on the modern day aircrew.

Great stuff- can’t wait until next week’s! 😀
