Mine was steam powered.
The supply was direct from my ears 😉
That Firefly is a very sociable aeroplane – when Bob Diemart had it, he configured it for 8 ( yes!) , and bolted on a merlin from a York.
Looks as though its been a bit messed about with since then 😉
Pacer, not Tripacer.
Pilot believes carb icing to be the most likely cause, on a glide approach from 300 feet, at the end of the first circuit, so muffler perhaps not very warm yet.
In this case, the P.I.C is pretty much in agreement with the report of ‘plummeting’.
Good show chaps !
I really like that. Not a Elf & safety Nazi in sight, but just a ‘can-do’ attitude, and a bunch of people willing to help. 🙂
Very refreshing.
anyone know what happen to the Southend Robot ?
Yes, it was sent down for 15 years on ‘grooming charges’.
As for that Fiat , it was at DX in about 94, utterly derelict , stripped and knackered.
This would be appreciated by the spotters.
Let’s apply a bit of common sense here.
Get the sweaty hordes to pull the Chipmunk instead- never mind 10 metres, you’ll be able to tug that thing all the way back to Hatfield.
Then, take them all flying in the Dak. What’s not to like ??
70 mins in a Tiger Moth, 40 mins in a Harvard and 40 mins in a Spitfire for £5400. And a PPL.
I would’ve thought operating a training Spitfire out of Old Warden would be a tad marginal…
I had the same thought, but of course the operator is not obliged to undertake the circuit work at OW, and 5 mins cross country will offer you Duxford, or Henlow, or Cranfield, or Fowlmere….. and so on.
Furthermore, the nature of the ‘course’ may be that ‘Pilot under training’ is not actually handling the aeroplane close to the ground, so the fact that the field is not massive is not a factor.
There is a difference between kosher flight training, and the ‘Spitfire Experience’.

I can barely afford to do either- certainly not both…
Heard today some ‘very deeply’ inside information which suggests the aeroplane is likely to quit Oxford and probably relocate to Old Warden.

Don’t tell Geoffrey Wellum, he thinks he is still alive
As do quite a few others.
Surely this thread is about the last POLISH B o B veteran.

What on earth can you be expecting ?
