‘Considerable heat ‘ – therein lies the clue.
Big (ish) aeroplane, smallish strip, hottest day of the year, degraded performance. It sounds as though the pilot made all the right decisions.

Charlie Kulp- he’s all over the internet, Youtube etc.
18.30 over Amersham , heading SW, a twin engined , twin finned aeroplane, seen from the rear, 1 mile distant.
Beech 18 perhaps, but looked a bit more portly. Anyone know if the Howard 500 has been out and about today ?
A Cub holding formation with a Harvard, now I have seen it all !
What about the long-standing tradition that fly-ins levy no landing fees ?
How about painting it up in genuine warbird colours as flown in combat by the Rhodesians?
A conflict, but not really combat. Surely not a chapter worthy of commemoration. It brought out the very worst in both sides.
Love those colour shots.
VVO seems to have that sinking feeling !
The BBMF site is pretty helpful.

So, 8 different locations and 10 different times….
This year’s Forum Meet is shaping up to be another classic ! 😉
It’s enough to turn you into a YIMBY…
Yes- in my back yard !
Looks more like a Furricane to me 🙂
I am reminded of the B-29 Kee Bird , intact, but billowing smoke, and already doomed. 🙁
I will buy everybody at the meet an ice cream ! ( I have set aside £2 for the very purpose- should cover it !)
What was our special dress code again ? Trainers, jeans and carrying a camera 😎
From the video, the Capt seems to have chosen a good field, and his decision not to delay putting down his burning aeroplane seems to have been very wise.
This could have been so much worse. I think luck was on their side, but that will not be much consolation to the Liberty Belle team tonight.
