    ‘Considerable heat ‘ – therein lies the clue.

    Big (ish) aeroplane, smallish strip, hottest day of the year, degraded performance. It sounds as though the pilot made all the right decisions.

    18.30 over Amersham , heading SW, a twin engined , twin finned aeroplane, seen from the rear, 1 mile distant.

    Beech 18 perhaps, but looked a bit more portly. Anyone know if the Howard 500 has been out and about today ?

    How about painting it up in genuine warbird colours as flown in combat by the Rhodesians?

    A conflict, but not really combat. Surely not a chapter worthy of commemoration. It brought out the very worst in both sides.

    From the video, the Capt seems to have chosen a good field, and his decision not to delay putting down his burning aeroplane seems to have been very wise.

    This could have been so much worse. I think luck was on their side, but that will not be much consolation to the Liberty Belle team tonight.
