I curse those bl**dy verchials :(:(
At least we now have satellite imagary on the net, which can give you a fair idea of how the airfields have changed since the book.
The site Aboutmyplace covers some of the country with ‘Birds Eye’ images, as they call it, showing oblique images that you can rotate through the points of the compass. I think so far they mainly cover the more urban areas, but you can, for instance, look at Bovingdon, with amazing clarity, even so far as seeing the old landing lights.
Interesting point ,there- at Waddington G-FURY separated behind the cockpit, as did the Navy two-seater (albeit after embracing a tree) , and these Reno photos show similar airframe trauma. Perhaps the fuselage comes apart at this point for disassembly.
No reflection on the abilities of the pilot but I think there is a large element of luck in the outcome of such an arrival. Certainly you have to present the machine to the ground as staight and level as you can manage, but beyond that you are only along for the ride, and how it slides, or tumbles or breaks up is mainly in the lap of the Gods,
Anyone up North seen a gaggle of Moths going past sideways, very fast?
Any news at all ??
Sorry, I did of course know that, but just had a little attack of ‘tabloidese’.
I was going to put ‘Doomed nazi fighter in kent horror crash ‘
5 Flyers and some cardboard ‘flats’
One (French )) burned out at Binbrook, Sally B still at DX, Pink Lady still around but soon to be grounded, seemingly. Other two flew back to USA.
No doubt some keen type will be along any moment with all the serial numbers etc.
Expect to see Turbulents, Lightning, Hurricanes, Tempest, Typhoons this weekend, according to the BBC weather forecast:(
Yet ANOTHER terrible weekend weather forecast, which is far from Moth-friendly unfortunately. You will need industrial-sized Mothballs to fly in that wind!
Still, fingers crossed, hopefully will be better than predicted.
Just a bit too much choke, is all.

Astonishing really that we have a government who over the last ten years have been happy to see this country gradually lose control over the supply of its energy reserves, and watch as we shift towards dependance on gas piped in from Russia, whilst at the same time encouraging the sale of our largest indiginous energy supplier to a French company.
Russia cannot be relied upon, and things have a way of changing quickly- see how the deal with BP is unravelling , with unseen but obvious backing by the Russian government.
Our labour leaders are guilty of complacent linear thinking, merely extrapolating the political/economic climate of the last 10/15 years, and supposing that the future will offer more of the same. We could end up in a situation where our nations energy is turned off like a tap, and then we will see how much use all our wind turbines are.
Hope for the best , and prepare for the worst.

I hear that Barnum and Bailey have folded up in capitulation to TTC’s marketing tsunami. And now he pulls an AUSTER out of the hat !! Inspired !:)
Was rumoured to over-fly Benson’s family day today, but no show.
A Sopwith Triplane was built as a two-seater (side -by-side) by J Penny reg G-PENY. It has had a few ‘adventures’ and may now be a single seater .
Maurice Kirk has been advertising his ‘thing’ which was a two-seater Gunbus for a while, but is now a DH2 with just one seat
The camera had to face backwards because of all the pesky flies that were splatting over the lens!
