Not the Pete Smith who lived at Calshot working on the Sunderland G-BJHS?
Chipmunk and parachute near-miss, for those who may not have time to check out vid.
Posted before.
They can’t be scrapping 146’s already! I remember when the prototype first flew, and it was only a few years ago.
I did not like the way the sun moved from an easterly direction to a more westerly location as the afternoon progressed. The IWM clearly has little regard for the needs of photographers. Or loonies.
Next year I shall watch it all from the roof of the Royston ‘Burger-rama’.
Amazing to see so many people about before dawn. 😉
Kemble has done some jet events, and quite good too, but for the airshow-going public and enthusiasts too, it is the big pistons which really blow their frocks up.
I do not think you could fill a full display with historic jets.
Meteor, Vampires, T33, Hunters, Gnats, JPs (?) F86, Canberra, ME 262(!)……
Leonides theme over Chesham this evening
Pemboke at 18.30
Provost at 19.15. Both heading SW
BBC says ‘brighter later’, but were not specific on ‘how bright, or how late’
At least there should be more space at DX, as much of the ‘sports-loving’ Great British Public will be slumped at home watching other people propelling balls backwards and forwards. It has got to be worth paying £30 just to avoid that..
The ‘wise old heads’ on PPRuNe (military board) say that if you are a bit hasty turning off the electrics, the governors become disengaged and the engine can ‘run away’. Or something.
The ‘baby’ Spits taking off on the grass came past the Tank Bank at about 100 feet range and barely off the ground. Fabulous!
The Norwegian DC-3 came right over the crowd a couple of times, and will perhaps get a little input from the display commitee!
Re Freeloaders. Duxford primary school were selling park-and-view facilities for £5 per car, but most people were piling into the field beside the M11, under the approach, where the Bf 109 ended up inverted a few years ago.
Stinky Pete.
Are you saying it flew away again???????????? The same day??
Tough Break ‘Lectra, been there myself, twice actually.
If you have fully comp cover, it SHOULD be covered, but I have never had a claim processed without a load of argy-bargy with the insurers, who never turn out to be as cuddly as their TV commercials might suggest. Good luck.
I thought the commentary had a bit too much of a Gallic flavour- Bernard Chabbert is good, but one can have ‘a liddle beet too much’ of a good thing. Who was ‘Side-Show’ Bob?
Had to laugh at some of the ever-expanding wind-break shanty towns on the fence- line, some of which have joined up to form complete enclosures.
Some great shots there- well worth a look!
Sea Fury, Bob Diemart’s (Strathallan) Hurricane, Hendon Stranraer, Martin Mars etc…..
Three cheers for the fellow with the wheel-barrow in pic 4- I imagine he is there for the week!
