PAF adds new bombs to its arsenal
By Arshad Sharif
ISLAMABAD, Dec 17: Pakistan Air Force has integrated the H-4 out-of-sight target bombs in its arsenal of fighter aircraft, official sources said. The incorporation of H-4 bombs have added to the capability of the PAF to hit out-of-sight targets from a distance of up to 120 kilometres to evade enemy radars during air strikes. A lighter version of the bomb, H-2 model, can hit the out-of-sight targets from a range of up to 60 kilometres.
“It is a step towards adding the Beyond Visual Range (BVR) missiles to our arsenal for defensive purposes and to address the strategic imbalance in the region,” sources said.
The indigenously produced H-4 bombs is an achievement of the National Engineering and Scientific Commission (NESCOM), which works in close collaboration with Pakistan Missile Organizationand the Air Weapons Complex.
“Three successful tests of H-4, with the latest conducted this year, produced satisfactory results leading to addition of arsenal in the fighter jets,” the sources said.
The H-4 bombs have been made through indigenous efforts by modifying the technological design of South African T-Darter BVR missiles. Till the induction of JF-17 Thunder in 2006, with a provision for BVRs, the H-2 and H-4 bombs could be carried by Mirage fighter jets. The H-4 infrared device is said to be comparable to that of the AA11, AA12 and Python 4 in the Indian arsenal.
Moreover, the sources said, fighter aircraft in PAF’s arsenal have the “provision” to be fitted with precision-guided munitions and BVR missiles. When asked about advantages of BVR in Indian arsenal, PAF spokesperson Air Commodore Sarfaraz said: “We are aggressively trying to utilize whatever equipment we have to its optimum operational limits through professional training and by pursuing high standards of maintenance.”
Mr Sarfaraz said: “We are aware of our technological needs and are vigorously trying to meet those requirements either through procurements or indigenous developments.”
The European and the US suppliers were currently not willing to share the technology with Pakistan. However, contacts were being established with China, defence sources said, adding that JF-17 Thunder (to be inducted in 2006), F-16s and the Mirage aircraft in Pakistan’s fleet all had the provision to be fitted with BVRs once the technology and the missiles would be acquired.

Hi,
SOC ..I won`tbet that PAF didn`t had AIM-7 at all..I have my reasons to belive that PAF do have AIM-7E4s but..then again if i can`t prove ..it aint there!! 😉
I am shocked about the Ranges 120 KM and 60 KM … that is quite a long shot.. but can any get real R-Darter and T-Darter ranges ..after all Grifo M / Grifo S7 or APG-66 radar don`t tark upto 120 Kms sounds like the Newspaper chap or PAF is Bluffing!! about the Range!!
Come on, SOC you need some pics ..I just broke the news OK!! No Pictures yet! By the way be a nice A-Bomb .. and post some pics of T-Darter which i think is 60 Km H-2 and R-Darter 120 Km H4 ..YOu be nice now OK!

Hi,
more addition to the article PAF official Added
” The european and the US suppliers were currently not willing to share the technology twith PAkistan. However , contacts have being established with China adding that JF-17 Thunder (to be inducted in 2006), F-16s and Mirage aircraft in PAF fleet all had provision to be fitted with BVR”
so after all, thoses rumour of T/R Darter, MUPSOW acquired by PAF was correct, it good that PAF now had enough capability to defend herself.
By the Way all I can say is
IAF — Lets Dance!!!!!!:D

Hi,
I thought i should add something..since Pakistan & Afghan War is related..so here is my thought.
The Only reason USSR lost in Afghanistan was She didn`t have specific COIN aircraft! Hind & Frogfoot are good combine..but larger number of COIN aircraft were needed but they didn`t devloped..Manpads were issue tooo they were just too Many..But again doesn`t mean Soveits Had junks..Last they had safe heaven in shape of Pakistan..were they run into after attacking! simple..this was the only reason USSR lost..don`t get me started on Taliban..Man..they were organized by Pak Army. once Pakistan stopped supporting Taliban they were Dead!
To make it clear a bit i suggest we all should read this article written by guess who http://www.acig.org/artman/publish/article_338.shtml
About MiG-29 well guys this plane is shortlegged..a replacement of MiG-23 please remmeber..its doctrine and usage is only Russian based system..any country who exported the plane but haven`t used it the way that MiG-29 was developed it suffered..hense the examples of recent performance.
One more thing MiG-29 is not i mean not an effective BVR interceptor look i used word INTERCEPTOR, reason ..MIG-29 be it carrying R-27, or R-77 she carrys only two which have to be ripplefire..if one is fired MIG-29 face some stability problems..
this thread is after all for MiG-29 🙂

Mirages
Hi,
So, PAF is operating around 150 Mirages in total.
Mirage 3E (as above) 48
Mirage 5F ROSE II 34
Mirage 5PA3 (Antishiping) 9
Mirage 5PA2 16
Mirage 5PA 13
Mirage 3/5 Trainers 15
Mirage 3RP 15
What i seem to understand that PAF is operating Mirage 3Es as compliment to F-16s in PAF. I wonder what is the doctrine of using them, in which manner? lots of questions?? but my guess is local Area defence as they offer better range in CAP.
Shed some light !
Cheers
