Thought you guys might be interested in these picces of Black6
Thanks, that’s interesting to see. I never knew where Black 6 had been in the intervening years. Did any particular unit/group/station claim ownership like 1 Squadron and “their” Spitfire 21?
[OT I do remember seeing the 109E that is now at Hendon on display at Biggin Hill in 1965 inside a (big) tent. It was painted an unappetising shade of green I think but I was a mere nipper at the time.]
Also check out what appears to be the Hillman Husky in RAF Blue next to the Landy (and the Lightnings) in Pic 1 on the left. Now there’s a forgotten classic. Have you seen what people are selling them for on ebay, especially the American spec LHD versions? (oh yes).

…
from browsing the rather excellent previous threads on the museum, it looks like it would be worth the trip over to get access to the storage area – this is across the other side of the airfield – I could make out a canberra and a noratlas in the distance, but I dont think access would have been permitted.
IIRC (and I may not) This would be the place where B-17G 44-8889 is stored. Stored so deeply the last time I looked the pics of it had disappeared off their website. I must look again. Love that B-26 too, BTW.
Thanks for posting – this is interesting stuff.

OT – Walmart may not be the answer
When “you all” come over to Texas, or the rest of the US, check the Walmart’s as I brought mine for $9.99 and have seen them there since then.
Cheers.

LSM, It’s a Region thing, unless an individual has modified his/her DVD player. (Which isn’t difficult – it’s just a code modification, no chips – but getting the information “how* to do it is tricky) USA has Region 1 – they have Region 2. We have NTSC color standards, they have PAL, so the Walmart Region 1 products don’t tend to play in Region 2 Europe on unmodified equipment.
Goes the same way – I would like to get the Region 2 version of “Battle of Britain” (Collective groan by forumites) but haven’t modidifed my cheap Walmart DVD player.

PS Did I just type “color”? Resistance is futile. I’ve been assimilated.
Jeff Thomas has been removed from the Flying Heritage Museum and has been replaced by Roy Stafford, formerly of the Tillimook Oregon Museum. Look for some very positive changes from this change. The P-51D from the Flying Heritage museum was on display at Oshkosh and Steve Hinton did a masterful job putting on daily flying exhibitions in it.
“Has been removed?” ? Is this reported in the popular prints anywhere? I don’t want to get too prurient but….

Terrific stuff. As someone else said – thanks for sharing.

Soemone in a Chevrolet Tahoe (middling-large size SUV) tried to force me into the oncoming traffic coming back to work at lunchtime. – filtering down drom two lanes to one and she wasn’t going to apply a filter, oh no. I never used to believe what they said about Kansas drivers (the people who said it were all from Missouri) but I am starting to believe it’s true. Fortunately there’s no sexual bias – they’re all crap.
It’s a lovely day here, I’ve got two fantastic dogs and a fantastic wife, Godley and Creme on the PC CD drive and a job with a very fast internet connection and not a whole lot to do right now. (!)
Just got to do something about the standards of driving in the Midewestern states. 😀

Anyone know of other Jap kit in the UK other than that mentioned (aware that The Hunt Brothers have a wreck)
Not much to add – there is more than one Okha in the UK, since I’m sure there is/was one on the Royal Engineers Museum which used to be in Chattenden or Brompton Barracks

Admittedly it was a year ot two back, (alright, 20-odd) but Kermit Weeks only paid £100,000 for an airworthy RS712.
I said I knew nothing!!
Quick curency calculation.
According to XE.com
100,000 Canadian Dollars = 46,174.82 Quid. (Pounds Sterling)
100,000 US Dollars = 57,125.87 Quid
100,000 US Dollars = 123,677.46 Canada Dollars
100,000 Canada Dollars = 80,859.38 US Dollars
I still think it’s cheap. You can see some pics at http://www.mossie.org/RS700.htm
I’m sure some of the forum photographers could pawn a couple of lenses for that. 😀

Here’s the link to my pictures that I posted on WIX a week or so back. Doesn’t look like much has changed over the years.
Nice Pics APC104. Thanks. I didn’t know they had Internet Cafes in Ecuador!
M-Bob – Caramba! Is that B-23/Whatever still there? APC – seen it?

Aircraft Type yes. Specific example? Hmmmm. I think getting rid of it because it isn’t a Canadian-built example is a fairly weak justification. However there is a lot of filthy lucre, (moolah, geetus, bread, arm and a leg, dosh, folding….) which no doubt is a motivating factor. A hundred big ones (even UK Big Ones) sounds to my untutored ear a little on the low side but what do I know? Not much.
If you had it in a museum and wanted it to look like a Canadian built example it wouldn’t be impossible to achieve. Uneconomical probably. Is the NMUSAF example something like a B.35 retro-fitted to look like a B.XVI? I haven’t looked. I suppose I’d better go and do that – in a virtual sense.

Interesting article pages 20-21 of the Independant.
Titled ‘ The Fighter Plane that would not die’
Basically is a story about the Finns efforts in getting the last surviour home from the states where it is currently headed for/under restoration. The aircraft was ditched on Big Kali Lake 25th June ’42 by Lieutenant Lauri Pekuri a 10+victory ace (who survived). Was raised from the lake in ’88.Cheers!

I never met Steve, but always enjoying reading what he had to say. He spoke to people around the world – in some cases without realising he was doing it.
I’d like to add my condolences to all his family and friends.

G/Capt ‘George’ Darley DSO:
“I had tested the Buffalo, used by the Australians, shortly after I arrived in Singapore. I found it to be a pretty useless heap of ironmongery to heave around the sky, ……..and later its Air Force equivalent amply showed the Buffalo as a useless fighter.”
Not a fan then…
I think this is discussed in a couple of other posts deeper in the backwoods of this forum. IIRC what was said – the difference between the Finnish and UK/US experience was that the Finns flew an F2A-1 (Brewster Model 239 – only 11 of which entered US service before the whole production run was exported to Finland). The F2A-1 was lighter and more agile (with a 900hp engine) The RAF/RAAF had the F2A-3 (Brewster Model 339) which had a bigger engine (1200hp?) but carried much more weight and wasn’t anything like as agile and was fodder for the Zeros.

Spurred on by the comments by the beloved Asley in the “Look at the t!ts on this” thread, what is your favourite line or character name from a Carry On film?
From “Carry On Screaming”
Harry H. Corbett and Fenella Fielding discuss a body part:
Det Sgt. Bung: This ear was found in Slocombe woods.
Valeria: What. This ear?
Det Sgt. Bung: Yes, that there
This one was odd because a lot of the carry-on regulars seemed to be missing.
I also liked Peter Gilmore (later of the Onedin Line) as the lecherous ambulance driver in one of the B+W medical ones, I forget which.
