WOW. 😮 where on the airport were they taken?
wonderful shots as always, Tom 🙂
great shots! 🙂
Is the Embraer brand new or from elsewhere… ?
its from somewhere else, built 2000, previous reg SP-LGK
Loving the GSS 747 ‘on-the-ground’ close up – great lighting on the landing gear. 🙂
Makes total sense, and is in line with BAAs surface access strategy. Surface access is always a problem at busy airports – road congestion in and around the airport – and its a much debated issue by economists.
The airport wants to improve air quality (namely by getting private cars off its roads), get more pax (and perhaps more importantly, employees) using public transport, and reduce the number of car journeys to the airport. it also needs to seen trying to provide more sustainable/environmentally friendly transport solutions. It should allow the airport to get rid of the park and ride services to nearby train stations.
It really was silly of BAA to have opposed the plan in the first place – the opposition flew in the face of their own Surface Access Strategy.
Will be interesting to see if BAA can operate the rail link properly and make it attractive to its employees and passengers.
Fedex will be back. I think this move to buy the 777F is just a temporary measure to fill the capacity gap – I think Fedex will reorder the A380 in years to come – such an aircraft like the A380 which (will) offers more cargo-carrying-capability than any other aircraft (both now and in the foreseeable future) will be just too tempting and worthwhile for Fedex.
It will also allow Fedex to see how the A380 operates performance wise, and to allow more time for (more) airports to adapt to the aircraft before Fedex might begin to fly the aircraft.
I don’t think it really desperately worries Airbus. If UPS pull out as well, then maybe Airbus might start to get a little more sweaty. just a little.
lol. reminds me of the time i spent working for a call centre dealing with breakdowns for people with insurance policies with some big UK insurance providers.
Similar mistakes happen all the time – I remember a few incidents where we would send breakdown companies to one location, only for us to realise that the client was on the other side of the county.
motorways were the worst. drivers very often, i found, didnt know which junctions or towns they are between – all they would be able to tell me is where they joined the motorway – you would end up having to ask the breakdown company to just drive along a stretch of the motorway until they spotted the Ford Fiesta that had a flat battery/flat tyre/overheated.

The engine threw a fan blade through the engine cowling.
This has been running on PPRUNE for a few weeks now, with a lot of rubbish being said too! The word from the wadis is that it was nose cowl thermal anti ice duct over pressurization during a go around and the blow out panel not blowing out. There would be a lot more damage if a blade had let go.
Rgds Cking
Engines and the cowlings are designed to contain fan blades should they ‘let go’ – imagine a red hot fan blade going through the engine (at enormous speed) and into the fuselage. ouch.
thanks for the comments guys, here are two more:

cool variation of aircraft! backlit or not, beautiful photos. i think that some backlit photos can look really great – for example the HLX New York taxi special colours one is really nice – the backlit just works for me in that one.
thanks Paul for the edit – certainly an improvement. 🙂 It was a dirty window more than anything – here’s wishing that light aircraft windows were kept clean! 😀

packed DHL ramp – there was also an Atlantic Airlines aircraft on the ramp
not strictly commercial – but im sure mods wont mind :diablo:
