Also, which airport is near Wimbledon, if any?
the a/c that you hear going over wimbledon will most certainly be traffic to/from Heathrow. thats the nearest major airport to Wimbledon
i dont know if i can explain this very well, but here goes.
NEMA has a footpath that runs more or less right around the airfield, which you can follow.
to get to it. the way that i know is to go to the rwy 27 end. if you come from the terminal, walking towards rwy 27, exit the terminal car parking, past the petrol station, and shortly beyond that turn left and you walk down the road that runs parallel to the eastern cargo apron, past business park buildings on your right, and cargo facilities on your left. walk all the way to the end, past the express holiday inn, turn left at the roundabout, and there wil be a patch of grass with the entrance to the airport footpath/walkway.
walk all the way along the path, past the smelly sewers (not nice on a hot day of course, so mind yourself). what you will be doing is heading towards the perimeter fence and the very end of rwy 27. the A453 is on your right. youll eventually come to the point with the landing lights, and an emergency access gate. the aircraft on final to 27 will come low over you – ok for photos.
this is the route, roughly, from the terminal to the entrance to the airport trail (the entrance that i know about):
if you then go back on yourself, this time sticking close to the perimeter fence, almost walking along it, you should be able to pick out a path – its more like just a path of well trodden grass – the grass around you does get quite long and spiky. follow this right along until you come to a mound – basically the end of the path. this will put you in a wonderful view of the rwy, with the taxiway to the end of the rwy passing no more than 30 metres in front of you – 767s, 747s, and most 737s will taxi straight past you.
the mound where you stand is placed back from the fence so you are not right up against the fence, and as long as you dont use something like a ladder for better views (not really needed to be honest) you shouldnt be bothered by security.
you will be standing moreorless on the location of the ‘old’ Aeropark, before it was moved to its present spot:
(awesome skills with MS Paint, eh? 😀 )
the spot is used quite a lot, providing views like this, and is good for videos as well. :

some of my photos (notice the lame plug 😀 )
from the end of rwy 27:

shots from both location:

from the two locations, the second one is best for videos – you can see aircraft touchdown really clearly, and you can see aircraft do their take off runs
a bit long-winded but i hope that helps
Sorry to bring up a fairly old topic, but the shot of the Kalitta Air 747 nose shows a patch of disturbed, overturned grass by an orange traffic cone.
For anyone interested (and this is only my speculation so dont take it to be fact), I believe that that shows where the TNT 737 impacted the ground on its attempted landing, before going around and making the emergency landing at BHX a couple of weeks ago that we all are familiar with.
EDIT – would help quite a bit if the photo that i was talking about was actually in this thread. 😮 😮 😮 lol
heres the photo that i was refering to:

A D isnt as good as Family Guy – Family Guy is a lot better IMO, although Roger (“ET” in the pic) is quite funny. 🙂

One of the guys that i went with got a great photo of one of the ezy A319s whilst we were there, and on later inspection of the image, he found the offending passenger – heres a link to a thread on macrumors that he posted showing the photo – i hope he doesnt mind me linking to it 😀

Lucky guy, Grey.
I was hoping that the tu-154 was going to turn up at NEMA on the 17th. Instead we got the A320….grrrrr. 😡
Superb shots
thanks for the comments guys! 😀
Fantastic shots!
Must had to NEMA soon, although, can it be on the quiet side? 😀
Lets just say that there was a lot of ‘hanging around to do’ yesterday. yeah, can be on quiet side, but sometimes it does get busy for short periods – not sure exactly at what time in the day that it gets interesting. i know that weekday evenings are busy with DHL flights, but the light by then isnt good for photography.
Nice photos Adam.
What are you doing at L`boro?
Im doing BSc degree in ‘Air Transport Management’ and i’m loving it. 😀
thanks
not dial up friendly!
part two (sorry, not dial up friendly – should have said in title)

the REALLY NICE passenger was on this aircraft and the finger came from the second window along:

thanks
Great shots everyone!
Where is Hucknall in relation to Nottingham East Midlands Airport? Just asking because the Hunter did a surprise fly past along the runway (low, loud and fast – very cool), and the Spit landed, as did a Chipmunk at the airport earlier this afternoon (yesterday now).
thanks
“Ooo look! BA polish their big aeroplane jetsy things up so nice for us ground peeps. oooo, th, its soooooo darling!”
