    RE: The Alamo

Vortex, I have a question about Texas. Having travelled there I wasn´t able that anyone could explain to me, why it´s called a “free state”. Having lived in London and seeing that there´s a Texan Embassy just off Trafalgar Square, I wonder if there´s a kind of independence movement in the State, or simply the “free state” title refers to El Alamo events?.

    RE: UN security council

I feel that these forum is deteriorating dramatically. I have never read such “refreshing” and interesting answers. I don´t know if it´s a question of ignorance, childness, brainless, or simply lack of travelling to perceive other realities. As far as the topic is concerned; I think the UN security council, as a usuful forum for the world´s people be heard, and as the only way some countries express their feeling, is an esential thing to keep peace and stability in this selfish world. All countries should represented, but as blocks not as single countries. So I propose a seat for the US as the most powerful country, China as the most populated one, Russia still a superpower, the EU, the Arab Leage, the African League and probably Mercosur or something which represent South America…..any other realities should be represented but I don´t know why. I feel the UN won´t be respected, as far as we look for greed and not for justice.

Not for me, I am not politically on the left. So wrong, in this point. I don´t consider any gulf state, even Iraq third world.

RE: Iraq; a question of oil.

Just relax, Vortex. I have never told that an attack wasn´t necessary, but under the international law (the UN), with evidences and with consent. Until now, nothing of these have been yet provided. The real problem with this, is as usual, is that many american members of these forum aren´t able to accept criticism at all. Attacks on the Bush administration is perceived as an attack on american, and I do find that simplistic. In this world, Vortex, there are diverse oppinions. And in this case, everybody oposes it strongly (even in your country the consensus is not so clear), doesn´t it bring doubts to your mind?. Of course, in Europe politicians are hypocrital, of course power is power and interests are interests, but there´s something clearly different. We accept that we are not always right. About the Cold War, that´s simply an example to show that the preventive theory is a clear violation of the international law and something that even most of jurists in your country (in international law) doubt about the legality of it. Who decides what´s a threaten?, Who decides what countries to attack without a previous attack?. The pentagon, the White House?. Hard issue. If a were american, I would be very uneasy. And about being grateful in the Cold War, well. I suppose some countries should, but I remind Spain wasn´t implicated in the war, and didn´t receive, as population any support in forty years we had to tolerate a ditactor. We would love a preventive attack on our soil to kick Franco out. And remember the Marshal Plan was good for america too. So don´t repeat all the time, how greatful should europe be.

In fact, that´s what we are trying to do, despite the US pressure. So it would be great, if we are allowed to.

Just listen to what your president has said. “We can´t allow the 12% of the world´s oil resources be under the control of this evil man”. I think, his words are clear.

The real problem is believing our politicians without addional evidences. I want evidences. Don´t let anyone to build your arguments. The preventive strike, new Bush Adm. strategy means that, “OK, they might be a potencial danger….so without being attacked lets strike”. Fine. If someone looks me in a suspicious manner I just shoot him. The former Soviet Union was a threat son why didn´t we drop a nuke over Moscow in the sixties to prevent dangers. Do you really think any country could dare to attack the finest war machinery in the world?. International law, soveranity is an essential concept. We can´t be just overthrowing every single thug because we have “fear, suspicious that he might do whatever……..about Saddam and his horrors…..he gased his people, with US chemical (provided by Monsanto), and two months later full diplomatic links were stablished. I think the US adminstration has to more credible and not trying to convice the people with silly arguments.
