Newmarket racecourse and surrounds were formerly used by Stirlings and Wellingtons.

Thanks JDK and Glen for your replies. The rate of progress on the Halifax is amazing.

I did the flight line walk on Sunday without a camera, so didn’t worry about ‘who was in the way’ of the aircraft or trying to ‘frame’ the aircraft through a viewfinder.

The re-enactors were a great addition which gave an ‘atmosphere’ to the line-up of aircraft.

Perhaps next time we can have some MP types to sort out the disapproving photographers on the flight line. 😀

    Great pictures.

Just getting the hang of posting photo’s, here is one more. If anyone is interested I can post some pics of past recoveries in Holland as well.

    Yes please, Cees.

The panels look great by the way!

The museum has great plans for expansion, underway at the moment, and thus a lot of a/c will be brought under cover and there will be room to erect the Halifax; though the proposed building won’t seem to allow it out.

It’s great that she will be ensconced in a warm new building, but it would also have been nice for her to come outdoors for the occasional daylight airing.

Was this ever a consideration or was it just deemed too impractical?

Will she be capable of ground runs if allowed out? The restoration looks amazing by the way. Great craftsmanship, a credit to all involved.

    It went Rapide for me

I went to the show on Sunday and felt it represented very good value for money. The opening tail chase performed by the Spitfires was worth the entrance fee alone.

    Oh, that and the Rapides.

I was so impressed by that showing that I booked a ride in G-AIYR in her last flight of the day. 🙂
Nice to touch down watching all those parked Spitfires et al flash past the window!

To be honest, I thought the French commentator chap was quite good.

The funniest sight was the guy who was standing on step ladders on the flight line walk. Amazing.

Is there a Macchi 202 which is airworthy? I thought I saw a picture of one on here not so long ago which was at least taxiing?

If there is one which is a flyer, I’d like to see one at Legends please!

According to the Leicester Mercury Newspaper:

“The Royal Air Force’s fastest aircraft will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a display at a Leicestershire airfield.”

“Two English Electric Lightning jets will perform fly-pasts at the Bruntingthorpe airfield, from 10.30am on Sunday.”

    Sounds interesting… 🙂

I got the 3 volumes about a month ago (thanks sis), but haven’t had a chance to watch them all yet.

I’ve seen about 15 minutes of it so far, and yes, seems to be mainly of reminiscences by the crews etc.

Nice air-to-air footage of the first restored Blenheim. Worth a look.
