You echo my thoughts Peter, I was looking through a comp folder of Chipmunk pics the other day and remembered chatting on the phone with Steve Young when he was considering buying a Chimunk. for some reason his tag line of ‘I’ll get me coat’ sprang to mind. When on rememberance day I raise a glass to the fallen I will spare a thought for Steve and his family.

    best regards.

OK, I have just been out and it didn’t take long, a little jaunt up the A1 and through Doncaster for family reasons showed these up,
    1 Transit van – tailgating
    2 Nissan Micra, – tailgating,
    3 Escort – Speeding in a 30 zone
4 Vectra – speeding round a bend in the middle of the road
5 VW Transporter camper van – poor lane discepline, crossed white lines onto opposite lane on a straight road.
6 3 small ‘hot hatch’ type cars, speeding round bends with tyres squeeling.

I was only out for about an hour, there were also cases of turning without indicating, running a red light and changing lane without indicating. non of these by four wheel drives before you ask. My point is this, It makes no difference what vehicle people drive, if they are bad drivers then they will be bad in any vehicle they drive, the same applies for good drivers. This is now a closed subject as far as I am concerned. Have a nice one folks and drive safely, Whatever vehicle you drive.

I also own a 4×4. no its not a ‘chelsea tractor’, its not used for the school run and apart from a bad winter when I lived in a village it never has been. I have in fact owned a few, the Rangerover, A superb vehicle, tows well, big enough for a family of six, the muts were very happy in the back where they could not distract the driver. the Landrover (which i still own), capable tower if somewhat slow, great loadspace for lugging things, room for 12 people, I have owned a 2.8 daihatsu fourtrack that is small and exellent for towing as proved when I towed a jet prov cockpit with it. also I am a courtious driver, ALWAYS use my indicators (one of my pet hates). oh, and has anyone mentioned that ‘knocking 4×4’s is old hat now?. surely things have moved on like it did with knocking bmw drivers?. volvo drivers?. etc etc?. whats next?. I suggest the humble old 2CV, its slow, noisey, each polutes more than half a dozen 4×4’s due to its very unefficient engine. oh, and as far as safety is concerned, its crumple zone starts at the front bumper and ends at the rear one. (that said in jest btw)
To be honest moaning about people because of what vehicle they drive is far too generalising. tell me what car you drive and I can garentee within the next couple of weeks I will see one being driven badly by someone who needs their licence ripping up.
Remember, Its not the vehicle that makes a bad driver, Its the person behind the wheel.
