Came across this one only today-whilst doing some research
on my own air gunner Uncles service history.(who was himself only 20 when he was killed) so I found it very moving and somehow personal.
My brief sweet life is over, My eyes no longer see.
No summer walks, no Christmas Trees, No pretty girls for me.
I’ve got the chop, I’ve had it, My nightly ops are done.
Yet in another hundred years, I’ll still be twenty-one.
So run the words on the 50 and 61
Sqns’ memorial at Skellingthorpe.

Sgt R W Gilbert,
Do you mean tour operators-or airlines associated with or owned by tour operators.
Sorry to sound pedantic but theres is a fair difference between the two.
(eg Clarksons and Thomsons were/are tour operators-but their associated airlines were Court Line and Britannia Airways.)
Thomsons used many airlines to fly their package tours-such as Hispania/Spantax/Monarch etc.
Laker=Lord brothers and so on?
I recall they also had an Apache-around the late 60s-if my memory is correct? Cant remember the reg though offhand
Woburn Moth meet 2005

I am reseraching a Lancaster crash that happened on 17th May 1945, (Lanc RF124, LE-S)with the loss of all seven crewmen. I have all the crew photos and ages, however, I need one age for one of the crewmen…
He was Sgt 1813035 Vincent Reginald Woodburn SOUTHWORTH
CWGC info is that he is buried in Watford North cemetery Hertfordshire Sec A Cons Grave 1213…..The post code for the cemetery is WD25 0RJ….
Would like to know his age (date of birth) and if possible a picture of his final resting place
Can anyone who lives nearby do me the honours please?
Kindest regards
Graham
I live very close-and am going quite nearby later today (Wednesday 11th) -so will call in and get a photograph. If you can PM me your home e mail address, I will forward it asap.
Silver/Yellow/red/Orange/Dayglo??
Personally I dont care for this sort of trivia-but do like to look and enjoy aircraft of this vintage.
A nice little line up of whatever colour you want to call them Sea Princes at Culdrose.Circa 1973-4?

Fast and low inbound to Old Warden
Unfortunately it was in the days of roll film and it would have taken too long to wind on!! Also I was with my young son-who was only about 3 or 4 years old-so thought it best to duck and put my hands over his ears!!
(he still remembers it-even though he is 31 now!!)
Oh to have had a modern digital camera on a multi burst setting!!
Fast and low inbound to Old Warden

The bits are still with the Dutch guys for the moment-who are going to try and see if they can find any more detail-but when I looked at them whilst there-couldnt see any obvious marks etc on them unfortunately.
And there was me thinking that Edinburgh (EGGD) was Essex Gay Girls Disco. :p
Totally agree and this is the point exactly-unless you have specific in depth knowledge about a specific aircraft/facts/etc-how do you know what on earth anyone is referring to-to be honest when I see threads titled like that-I tend to just shear away from them-in the probable misconception that they are likely to be too geeky-for my own general-non specific interest.
Oh and by the way Edinburgh is actually EGPH !! EGGD is Bristol- (which is the point exactly made-relatively few would actually care-unless maybe you were filing a flight plan or needing to be technically specific etc)
Thanks Gliderspit/Sonderman and all for your quick responses and assistance-already its narrowed down considerably the exact area-as one reference states “Crashed 1km South of Demen”
Demen is only a small village-so may be able to ask locally once in the vicinity.
Thanks once again.
Hi Beachcomber (and all)
I was interested to see the “Google earth” view of the crash site that you posted-is this something you created from known info or is there a website that shows similar crash sites?
I am visiting an Uncles grave in Holland around Easter time.
(83 sqdn Lanc Mid upper Gunner) lost on the last day of 1942. I know the combat details/grave site etc-but would be interested in finding the actual crash site if its known?
Thanks
The bowser driver and ramp staff appear to be wearing berets – which would seem to indicate its on the continental side of the channel anyway?
(Dont think they are flat caps).
I’m not arguing, but I’m surprised they could get a 74 around the corner by the Britannia hangar – or didn’t they?
The first one that ever came in was parked on the main ramp and did indeed taxy by the Britannia hangar-but there was very little spare room as you can imagine.
The BA one on question-parked up on the engine run up bay area
Do you have access to his old log books-secret or no secret-I would imagine he still logged it?
It got a bit hairy at times with the airline I was with -Pre cat 3 or even 2-we would have aircraft-getting very low on fuel-as airfields closed around them in rapid succession.
I recall a BA 747 – with Prince Andrew on board. Missed approach at Heathrow, diverted to Prestwick where the weather went out too so declared a PAN and scraped it back into Luton in minimal weather with minimal fuel-not a nice situation to be in
-but it was the only available bolt hole-despite being unsuitable in many ways for the type-but if you have little choice—-!!
