Realistically what aircraft are potential candidates for inclusion in the RAFM for the short to long term future?
I personally think it would be nice for the P-51 to be painted in more appropriate RAF colors than that of those its currently. I’m also interested as to if anyone knows as to what the status of the brigand fuselage purchased a few years ago is?
Are we likely to see a mass move of the aircraft out then or will they only move a few?
When’s the refurb of the american air museum scheduled for?
Ahh all sounds very promising I’ll have to pop down soon again and have a look around! I’m always amazed of the progress you make every time I visit.
Sounds all good to me! are there any plans for DH Dove or is that a more long time project after the rest of the long marston collection are cleaned up?
Is there a plan on what will be going in the romney or is that still to be decided?
I remember seeing plans for a second romney hut to display the lightning, a hunter or the buccaneer in a while back. Has anyone heard anymore on these plans or that of anymore expansion at the aeropark?
I might be sounding a bit biased here due to it being my local museum, but I think considering the collection they have the aeropark is perhaps under visited as a museum and that hopefully this new addition will boost visitor numbers further.
it’s being swapped with a DHC Buffalo
Really?
The aeropark would be a good location for it. The tie-ins with DHL based there would make the move probably easier and they do have room
Is the plan to make XX145 a runner?
I think the mustang replica deserves to be on a pole outside with the hurricane, this would then free up quite a large display area. If this move in 2015 does happen I’d love to see a f-117 the welsh p-38 and a few American helicopters arrive oh and the f-15 deserves to come indoors although I don’t think there is enough room present for this.
Wit a bit more investment and a few more volunteers it could be a very good museum not to say it already isn’t ! I’d love to see the buccaneer repainted into its current early paint scheme ( it is the only one exsisting to still retain these colours ! ) I’d also like to see the dove restored as it would help tell the story of the airport further.
After visiting today I can say this museum does not get the coverage it deserves ! Every time I visit there are new aditions or items worthy of looking at ! For example in the hanger today was a great collection of bmi baby items and the argosy was open to have a look around , I also noticed fundraising was underway for a second Romney hut with idea of being able to preserve either the lightning , buccaneer or one of the hunters indoors and provide a suitable environment for smaller aircraft to be restored in.
