Of course we still have ‘558 and Martin Withers to have another go 😀
Running with the humorous ‘scramble’ from the world of preservation – I’m sneaking along to the Museum and prepping Hunter XF382 for combat then… Should be easy as the guns already work, just need a few hundred rounds of 30mm please;) Source the missing pylons and it’ll be ready to receive underwing tanks & stores… Simples 😉
Neil McCarthy is ready for the northern flank with the JP undergoing the mods to bring it up to Mk52 spec with weaponary – and the current servicing schedule of the soon-to-be seen reappearance of the well known Hunter T7 “G-FFOX” has been hastened to get it ready to have a go 🙂
Team Viper are gonna get the call to muster crews too – we’ll have a force to be reckoned with taking us back to the 80’s alright…
Seriously though – I do know that on the Falklands we are far better equipped now than we ever were before. Equipment levels are sufficient – just need the manpower on the ground (a few trooping flights) and get whatever airborne forces we can get there quickly…. Obviously it’s not that simple but the reality is not that far from the above.
I couldn’t agree more with increased exposure of Brawdy’s Hunters, in whatever scheme – but then I could be biased having been lucky enough to work on them and still have one to look after 😀
I would post loads of photos on here but as they’re built up on my personal archives from all sources with copyright uncertain on a few I don’t tread on toes…. My own website covers them all anyway – but would always remove any that the copyright holder didn’t want on there etc. As far as I’m concerned, airing them is done without any profit making or the like, just to share amongst other enthusiasts 😉
Er – its in my post above!
I know but the pic you attached won’t enlarge so I couldn’t tell which serial number it was….. thanks for the updated info on reg’s.
And to think I pass by the Cosford one without realising it was the same ‘yellow’ example 😉
PS: I meant ‘find’ as in looking for a photo of it on my pc as I have extensive Brawdy archives to look back at my days there 😀
Have you considered either Winston or Clementine (Meteors) in the picture instead of a second Hunter or even a JFACTSU Jet Provost?
Ooo I like that idea indeed – agreed!!! 😀
Whilst having a look round I found an online image of the dreaded Dayglo Hunter 😉
Must admit I would like to find the yellow one too – it’s rather elusive online it seems?
I remember them 🙂 never saw the alleged “Dayglo” example though, just the Red and yellow ones… Their role was not something I am familiar with as groundcrew on them – but by the time I arrived in ’78 they were probably just part of the ‘fleet’ and could have been seen with any number of other Hunters on a sortie. The markings didn’t survive much longer after I arrived, mind you neither did many of the Hunters as they were in the middle of replacement by Hawks by then.
In answer to the original question – for artistic purposes a painting could include any of the other Brawdy Hunters to be honest 😉
Here’s XF418 at Brawdy whilst still adorned with the Red 🙂
299 was having maintenance at the time IIRC. It did appear for the film “Mosquito Squadron”
PM sent to the copyright holder – replied to and PM sent to you!
Lower than a Snake’s Belly in a Wagon Rut
I stumbled across THIS link whilst searching for something else, and I know some of the photos have already appeared on here, but some I haven’t seen before :eek:
Apologies of it has already been posted – I couldn’t find it and thought it might be worth sharing for the sheer amazement 😉
Found one shot on my pc but I don’t have the copyright – hence the small version uploaded. I do have contact with the owner if required….
Miss D underwent some repairs including a wing replacement whilst based at Kemble after an incident departing another airfield some years back. For some time the same wing appeared at the back of Delta’s old hangar (the old Red Arrows one)…
That’s why the removed wing appears with the other ‘bitsa’ parts making an almost complete Hunter in that photo 😉
Also – Tail Code “87” was XL592 when at Brawdy – I have pics of it, and currently looking for any of XL578?:)
I couldn’t get the AAIB link on their website to open the .pdf file by left clicking it. I right clicked and “saved link as” onto my pc instead. Once downloaded, it opened no problem from my pc. I don’t know why it’s been an issue, but it has happened to several of their report files recently for me.
Anybody read the report ??
I cannot get it to open from the AAIB website

Hi Baz, I “saved link as” and opened the pdf file from my pc with no problems…
Makes interesting reading.
If you’re stuck, I can email you a copy if you want?
Moore & Wright are still going – founded in 1906. As suppliers of the tools of choice within the engineering trade, it’s a name I’ve heard of before but not sure if it was during my RAF career or not?
Found THIS image on a google search – seems to be identical to how you describe yours?
Quite likely to have been a standard procured tool for the Air Ministry – we tended to have the best available, although that was no guarantee that erks like us could always use them to their best during training;)
