Really ? Looks like a Wessex to me…

http://www.f4phantoms.co.uk/xv487b_56.html I blame the bad caption given here – the URL shows this as the correct XV…… 😮
I shall now go and bury my head in shame….. 😀
XT487 shows as a Phantom???
I like the photo of the Gazelle pod on the trailer – it’s just spawned an idea in my head now – I have an identical Motorcycle Trailer which hardly gets used – i would love a small ‘pod’ like that to sit on it and show….. mmmmmmmm 😉
Woodbridge,
You are right about the Saudi airframes but shamefully BAE left them to languish in open storage and they suffered big time, they were moved on and some were used as props in a film (Wing Commander I think) and some found there way to museums, the most notable is the one at Gatwick aviation museum which is slowly and impressively being returned to ground running condition.
John.
Just to add to the point about ex-Saudi airframes and their condition – please don’t forget the pristine example at the Midland Air Museum which now carries FULL Saudi markings after permission had to be sought to carry them again!

Gazelle would be nice and manageable – even the Army Recruiting Team had one then managed to get a whole one instead at some point

😀 Cheers Graham – that’s a more familiar place – right outside Birmingham’s Council House:

What time are you likely to be there until? I’m working that morning, so hoping to be able to pop along and see this for myself…
Good question I never even thought of – and equally good answer from Baz 🙂
Hi Graham,
Can you just confirm the location you’ve given as I’m having trouble finding it – and I’m local?
We have a Queens Square in West Bromwich, but nothing’s showing for Birmingham itself?
After a long day up at the Museum today, I popped down the road to have a look at the one Hunter that was visible from the old airport entrance – GA11 WV256. Apologies for the naff photo, but camera phone on zoom as no security about to ask to get closer, and didn’t want to get caught without asking first etc…. 😮
Certainly still loading slow here, and it’s the only site that’s doing so for the last few hours…….. clearing temp files / cookies not the solution this end….
Seemed fine earlier – now very slow to load?
As did I, 6 minutes after you:p
You did – I’m getting dizzy going round in circles now :D:diablo:
Thanks Tim, I think we both know the background sufficiently to be wary eh?
Maybe I’m putting my head on the chopping block by saying this, but from what I’ve seen and heard – “starting” the restoration was a term to be taken very very loosely…. Transfering the airframe to another location just becomes another group’s headache. No doubt some continuity and funding could have got the old girl airworthy before, but the task ahead is probably not going to be quite as simplistic as it may have been….
That’s my own personal view – and I’m an avid Hunter fan.
Yes….. back at the beginning of this thread I posted the link to the airframe’s history: LINK Page 2 gives that part….
