I’m just itching to launch the “Post your Hillson Bi-mono pic’s here” thread :diablo:.
I would wait until there’s a seperate sub-forum for them – but then I think I’m playing devil’s advocate (again)
Keep on posting those pics, in fact post as many as you can on this thread :)Unbelievable what some people complain about…
Richard – I hope you did actually read my word “observation” as just that, and not as a complaint..
I started this thread to make a point (yes, that’s a point, not a complaint), and I didn’t just sit back and let the forum descend into the kind of chaos and slanging match which it has done in the past.
No – I went and came up with an idea of having a forum structure that would work (and does work on other forums out there) and listened to other people’s opinions…..
I have said, and will repeat again – I do have an interest in seeing these photos myself, therefore – no complaint about the posting of photos.
It’s amazing how some have reacted, not reading the thread as it is, merely reading it as they want to, and then start ‘complaining’ back about the thread being here. And there was me thinking debate was the correct way of bringing ideas to the table?
At least there have been some good comments to come out of it.
Yep… another idea.
I wonder at what point someone will actually see that looking under a “photographic” main heading is actually pretty dam sensible when you want to see photographs?
Having sub-sections to distinguish between historic/modern/military/civil/airshows/ whatever is something that could be done to make it easy to track threads and do any research…
For want of a better phrase – by decluttering the historic section of purely photo threads, it leaves room for the Q&A threads which actually might need more urgent help but get buried and have to be bumped to be seen?
Have a think about it before anyone jumps on their high horse with another round of flaming remarks eh?
It’s interesting reading the various points made on this subject, and I emphasise again that I was in no way, shape or form trying to kill the photo contributions off altogether.
‘XM692’ has pointed out the sub-sections in the photographic sections – that is hitting the nail on the head!!! Would it not be possible to configure this forum section in a similar way then?
I would have thought it would be both tidier by default (hopefully saving valuable Mods time / workload in the long run), and easier to research for photo collections?
That’s what I would like to see – a nice database of contributors photos of different aircraft types all under the single heading.
Please tell me that makes sense before I start reinforcing my sandbag defences… 😀
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WE.177 is worth a read on the subject – I just learnt a few things I didn’t know even though I was in the RAF from ’78… 😮
Can we have a Hillson Bi-Mono thread pleeeese ?.
May I refer the learned gentleman to this thread then?
http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showthread.php?t=86942 😀
I still have my sense of humour intact after all….. and encourage further debate on the emotive subject… (whilst I happily build my sandbag defenses against incoming flak…)
Not intending to cause offence, but is there a danger of this “Historic” thread becoming rather full of threads dedicated to an awful lot of “pictures of…”???
There is a seperate “Photographic” section for these surely, and I quite like reading the other threads in “Historic” which are wonderful for finding all sorts of information on a vast range of related subjects.
I’m not against photographs of historic aircraft – far from it in fact! I just wonder if there is a danger of it spiralling out of control with a thread on just about anything historic you can imagine?
Before someone comes along and ‘flames’ me for speaking as I see, I am expressing my own observations on forum structures – something I feel needs keeping in shape to make it easier to research within.
I see that some members are reading between the lines a bit – please read what I said above, I’m not against the posting of photos; I have commented on a few because some are gems….. I made an observation about the Historic Forum becoming a collection of “post your pics of” threads – that’s all..
Why some have got irritated about it is beyond me – but I did predict some ‘flaming’, so it’s not unexpected…
A sub-forum for the photo archives would be a good solution, but how workable it is for the Mods I don’t know.
Thanks to those that kind of had the same view but hadn’t commented before I raised the point, and apologies to those that have jumped down my throat for using the forum to type a comment…. 🙁
Thank you…….
Bit of friendly advice…..
1) It’s the North Gate that is the entrance for AV8, not to be confused with the Main Gate
2) From the AV8 side of the airfield, any views of the stored airliners are scarce, as the new hangar constructions block most of the close views…
3) Better overall views can be seen from the infamous layby on the south side of the airfield (i.e. the A429)
See this link for airfield info: http://www.kembleairport.com/contact
October 1983 it says on that photo link?
Can’t help you with your first question personally..
Best thing for the second is to contact the Museum directly:
(02476) 301033 or email to: midlandairmuseum@btconnect.com
Ask to speak to Barry James (Chairman) about AWA records held at the Museum – he’s the one to know!
Wonderful photos – thanks for sharing….
I bet that shot of Britannia 496 will please the guys at Kemble who look after her 🙂
😡 What a waste though – will it be repaired or scrapped I wonder….
Have a look at the clips on youtube, then contact the chap who uploaded them, buy the DVD set he is offering, and then sit back and soak up the atmosphere in the entire series all over again in the comfort of your sofa…… 😀
Absolutely fantastic viewing…. :D:D Watching it last night was as if I had only just finished watching it yesterday – I have a lot of memories of that period in time as I was in the RAF then.
I can’t recommend buying it enough – it’s not been available anywhere else..
Perhaps when the investigation of the Airbus crash is complete the A320 should also go on display at the quayside.
It was one hell of a delivery flight !!!
:diablo: Well yes….. but not scheduled. :p
