Roger – it does indeed feature Kemble’s G-VFWE… I had the pleasure of meeting Matt and the filmcrew when they arrived – such a nice chap too…:D

I’ve set my reminder to watch the programme – should be good!

Excellent news, and I wish them all the success in this venture….

Let’s hope it gets of our younger generation involved with engineering – something frequently highlighted in the media that is lacking.

Well done to all concerned. 🙂

I think it would be slightly simpler if the RAF painted one of theirs to represent one in BOAC colours before their retirement….

When I say simpler – doesn’t mean it’s likely to happen…. just comparative :diablo:

I’m setting off tomorrow as part of the Kemble Events Team… Set up starts Friday morning with the barriers etc – should be a good weekend as long as the wind keeps down.

Over 200 vintage / classic aircraft scheduled to be there over the entire weekend! 😀

😮 Wow – what a stunning look, and a fascinating look behind the scenes showing what it took to get that amazing result…. 🙂

    “Waffer thin”…. 😮

Who on earth did their sandwich packaging? They want shooting for their appalling choice of spelling and grammar…..

Thanks pagey,I wish I knew who took it/flew it but too long ago,I keep thinking it was taken from a light tower but it may have been from a ‘giraffe’- single seat Hunters were always photogenic 😀

It was a ‘giraffe’ Baz. I was discussing this with another of us ex-Brawdy lot recently actually… I was over on VASF pan at the time, and saw it come past at an alarming low level bearing in mind the uneven terrain from that side of the airfield… There was talk about the pilot leaving (me thinks instructor then), and it was pre-arranged to have to station photographer up on the ‘giraffe’ steps for good effect… Don’t think it was expected to be quite that low though, especially as there are 3 hangars out of shot but very close and he was heading straight at them 😮 That photo is caught just as he banked away and pulled up sharply to clear them…. which probably wasn’t what the photographer was expecting…. 😀
I have another shot from ground level which shows other aircrew casually strolling back from the flightline looking to their right to see this coming right at them….. brilliant stuff – never to be seen again me thinks :diablo:

Nothing wrong with that pic at all – that looks pretty standard procedure for a Bucc…..
Many a time I have witnessed this happening – IIRC the pilot preselected undercarriage up prior to the point of lift-off, and once clear of the ground the weight-off microswitches allowed the undercarriage to retract at the earliest opportunity. Pretty impressive to watch, and you got the impression that the crew were rather hoping that there was no sink rate at the same time 😀

Interesting pictures – I was wondering what happened with this thread…

And how come it is still standing? It was due for demolition – is that still the case?

I thought the Shorts 330/360 was actually based around the mobile classroom-Elliott hut/Portabin in the first place!

    :diablo: That’s good….. :D:D:D

So, a big thumbs down then…

Met with a wall of silence then…… how typical.

At least some people could see the point of this topic – and responded in a sensible manner.

That’s the trouble with the net in general – ask a question or raise a point and wait for the flak in response…

It would seem that there is a deep set resiliance to any change so far.

When I mentioned a comparison with other forums and their structure, I forgot one of the more obvious and relevant ones – UKAR. Their seperated photo forums sit quite happily with other dedicated ones, and there is no sign of lack of use….
I’m still looking at some ideas I had, to try and explain.

I confess, I dont like splitting forums up – I am a member of a car club. The split the manufacturer up into different car types; fair enough. The they subdivide the car types into model years, and then each of those are split down into engine, powertrain, interior, instrumentation and electrics, interiors and so on. Its too much!
    Bruce

Are we in the same car club? 😮 Seriously though – that’s exactly what we do in my club, and by “we” I include me as one of the web admin team of three.
We adopted an online forum structure (IPB) that we found many similar clubs were using in exactly the same way. There are teething problems, I wouldn’t deny that, but the search facility does get used, and can find the required information…

Mark12 – you made a very good point there about examples of long-running threads (I would use the LPG thread as an absolute gem, full of photos AND updates on the QRA shed rebuild)…. Those kind of threads are indeed archives full of fascinating information.
The ‘pure’ photo threads that I’ve been commenting about are equally archive material, but distinctly different (essentially they are online galleries).

If I may speak with my ‘moderator’ hat on from other forums, I much prefer the tasks of moving threads to the right section than dealing with censorship / arguments, etc… Should there be a need to moderate any new sub-sections it therefore shouldn’t be too much to ask any moderator to assist with….
