XL360
I’m surprised you haven’t all mentioned XL360 at Midland Air Museum.
This is one of the finest examples of a Vulcan in existance in my opinion. It still has all her engines which are all in great condition and the interior is complete.
Certain bits of equipment are working and I’m sure will soon be full of whistles and hums as further work is done.
She may not be a flying example, but for a museum example, she is a fine one.

Cheers Wieesso,
Already spoken to Robin and got the ok to use that one.
Any other leads welcome though.
Wasn’t aware of that David. Although thinking about it a lot of other liner’s end their days in the same place so would make sense.
Wev’e got details for a few people to chase up for parts but any leads would be most grateful and would be of use for later in the project.
First up though if anybody can help with nav light lens’s for each wingtip. One of ours is smashed the other is …………..er………………….well non existant.
Thanks for the support Rare Bear.
I hope that in return for the helpful comment you wont be expecting us to pimp up Victoria Lynne for a turn around the pylons? 😀
Oh dear there’s another door thats been opened for a move away from the original intention of the thread. 😮
Ah the Junkers JU-88 the well known fore-runner to the Vickers Viscount. 😀
Also saying about the amount of room we have behind the fuselage on the low loader to put other things on, we actually won’t have that much.
All room will be taken up by the five aircraft jacks that will have to come back with the airframe as thats what its sat on at the moment, they are quite large!
Add the Sea Prince on the gate at Long Marston as well.
Im afraid I havnt got the serial to hand at the moment I know its civil reg was G-RACA though.
Re the parcel shelf. You try telling the youth of today that Alan.
With regards to the haulage qoutes there’s quite a lot of differance to be honest. It really does range from Blimey thats cheap to HOW MUCH with everything in between.
And this is only by getting qoutes from reputable companies that we have been recommended. We are just looking into the pro’s and cons of each of the qoutes at the moment. We obviously want to be comfortable who we trust with our lass.
David,
I think youve missed the jokey nature that the thread has taken. Having moved aircraft previously Im sure your aware it isnt an easy task, especially for an aircraft the size of a Viscount.
Im am a little unsure how you think we will be moving the majority of a Viscount with a family saloon. Trust me Saabs are bloody good cars but………………..not that good :diablo:
I can put your mind at rest and confirm that future journeys will be done without the family saloons.
The distance between us and where she presently lies isnt a huge journey, and going down as we in a number of trips allows us to do a few things which will help us in the long run.
Firstly bringing back smaller items like we did allows us to record and place them into storage at her soon to be new home. Its just us been organised. I believe its called Project management. We will have enough to do when the airframe gets here so weve decided to bring the smaller parts up now and place them into store. It will spread the work load hugely.
Secondly visiting the aircraft regularly allows us the oppurtunity to prep the aircraft in various ways. This means when the day comes to move her we are once again prepared. Meaning that we can get the low loaders in and out of Hatch quickly. Time after all is money and we dont want hauliers hanging around waiting becuase we didnt get our act together.
Lastly though (and just as importantly) if you had spent a sum of money on an aircraft wouldnt you want an excuse to go and see her?
Personally I see it as a bit of a bummer spending all that money on something and then having her so far away from home. Some how pictures just do put the same grin on my ugly mug.:(
Appreciate the Haulage company details though. Already got qoutes in from various people and have some interesting prices.
Do you think the Fuselage will fit in the 9-5 Estate model then G-ORDY? 😀
Viscount F-BGNR “Victoria Lynne”. The move begins.
We know the thread title is misleading and you will all now be expecting to see pictures of Victoria Lynne on the back of a low loader safely winding her way upto the midlands.
However……………..we thought that you’d all still be interested to know that we havent been sat back doing nothing since our last postings and have progressed albeit in a small way.
Last Friday (9th Feb) we went down to Bedfordshire and bought back as much as we could in the back of a Saab and a Pug 306. Considering the size of the aircraft we managed to bring back a surprising amount of parts which included x3 wing tips, 4 cowl petals, blanking covers for the jet pipes and nacelles along with boxes and boxes of instruments and other odds and sods.
With the above parts home the weekend was then spent sorting what appeared servicable and what wasnt and then duly placing them in bags and catalouging for future reference.
In a few weeks time we will be visiting her once more, this time with trailers so that we can bring some larger items back namely the tailplanes and fin. We also hope to get two of the engines bought up about the same time.
The fuselage and wings will be following later in the summer as originally planned. For these components to move we still need to find a sponsor or wealthy benefactor.
We are still open to offers ladies and gentlemen 🙂
Vulcan at MAM????
Yep, XL360. It’s been with us for quite a few years, in my opinion, one of the best kept Vulcans in the UK;)
The best Hunter I have heard produce a blue note is without a doubt Misdemeanor:cool:
The things I do for the forum and museum eh?
I was frozen by the time I had finished snapping most of the aircraft in the snow.
Nothing a good cup of tea didnt sort out though. 😀
