What a sight a Coventry in a month or so,s time could it happen? a line up of the following with all engines running

    The Heron
    The Lancaster
    The Shackelton
    The Viscount

Blimey N.P.V. I know it will be good to hear all these engines running but we need a bit longer for the Viscounts Darts to be running. We’re good, but not that good….:D 😀

Very interesting discussion your all having here folks.

It’s nice to know that you are all putting in the effort of trying to come up with ideas to help fund the restoration of Victoria Lynne.

    We are listening;)

    R you sure?

I was told Corgi had done an Air France Connie & DC-3 by my normally very reliable source.

Can it really be 1-0 to Albert? :diablo:

And to save people rooting through their old Corgi catalouge’s yes they did indeed produce a diescast Viscount in Air France colours. :p

How do we know? already checked. Great minds eh Roger?

Oh well at least we have only got one prop unit to worry about.

Whats that there’s four units? 😮

Just as a note of caution – prop o/h s are notoriously expensive! 😮

    Martin and Rob,

However, the problems may come from the propellers. These props have been sitting for a long time, and will require careful inspection before being used in anger. Also, the bearings have been under preload for a long time, and may be useless.
    Bruce

This is something that we have taken into consideration Bruce my friend.

One of the many items on our agender is to have the props overhaulled and checked, along with the engines to. As all of you will know, when it comes to preserving an airframe in the way we are, the last thing we want is a failing prop or engine and with health and safety in mind all areas of these aspects will be covered.

It is very important to us and the aviation enthusiast that this is all done under the correct procedures.

If the props are unservicable then they will not be fitted to the airframe and new ones will therefore have to be sourced.

    Regards

    Martin and Rob

Thanks for the best wish’s chaps.

We thought that with all the interest in preserving military aviation (and rightly so) it was about time some thing was done civil wise.

We did put a posting on the Flypast Historic forum and have had quite a few hits. Here’s the link in case anybody wants to read some more about us.

Who would have thought the colour scheme of an aircraft could have caused so much debate:rolleyes:

Seriously though Its good to hear peoples opinions on the subject. It would be very easy for us to say its our aircraft and sod the lot of you we will paint her the colours we want which could well be dayglo orange with green spots. We are joking at with that comment.

But we are genuinly interested to hear peoples comments about the colour scheme and the various issues like Bruce raissed. We want to involve people in her restoration and constructive comments like this will do that. And believe it or not the pair of us have been at the Museum tonite discussing the comments youve all been making today. So we do listen.

Please though (especially you Adrian 😀 , and loved your idea of 50/50 scheme to make the paying public come back and pay again) what ever we decide please go easy on us if you dont like it.

Bruce will drop you an email tomm at some point re the points youve made.

We can see all sides of the colour scheme argument. And as volunteers at the Midland Air Museum we have heard and taken part in all the debates on may occasions.

Alberts opinion holds a lot of weight she did only wear the colours of Air France and Air Inter. And really yes she should be put back into one of those liveries.

However there is the publics desire to see an aircraft in their favourite colours. Ie something they saw or maybe flew in many years ago. And lets be honest her previous owners dont appeal hugely to the British public.

Equally the supporters association we are presently setting up (Watch this space for details) needs the public to join in so we can achieve our aims of making her live. A colourscheme that appeals to the public will surely aid our marketing efforts for interest and membership? So we do need to take onboard their opinions.

I could also add that nobody ever comments on the BBMF decision to repaint their aircraft on a regular basis in markings they didnt operationally wear. Its a way that keeps the public interested and the flight operational. So do we go down the route that each time she needs a repaint we tell a differant part of the Viscount story by placing her in a differant airlines livery? Would we be wrong to do that if it kept Vicky alive?

So thats the decision we have to make. We admit we are not going to please everybody all of the time but please lets just enjoy the fact that we have invested already a lot of money and time into preserving a Viscount when a lot of other people havnt stepped up to the plate.

No matter what colours she will reappear in (and we havn’t decided yet). Surely thats all that matters?

Can I be a clever dick in my reply though and say at least ours has the proper shaped doors? 😉 Only joking.

Been serious though thanks for the best wish’s Denys.

Cheers for the info about the Sea Hawk Roger. That hadnt been mentioned to us perviously. Funny how some airframes seem to follow each other around the country isnt it?

No decision on her colour scheme as yet. There’s a few options we are discussing at we at the minute.

For those showing interest in our project take a look at the brilliant Vickers Viscount site and have a peek at the news page.

Some more info on our project and also some pictures of her we took a few weeks ago.

It also has to be said that there is some other good stuff on the site as well.

Big thanks to the guys for giving us a mention on their site especially Brian Burrage.
