I think you’ll find he ordered the crew to make preparations to bail out, but he was able to regain control and get them all back across the Channel

Thanks Moggy
I read the story some 30 years ago from a local newspaper cutting. But thanks again for the correction. Like so many still a brilliant story.

‘Hajo’ Herrmann, minelaying in Plymouth Sound, according to Patrick Bishops ‘Battle of Britain’ book (published 2009) p123.
Yes that is right a balloon attached to Plymouth breakwater, the JU88 Landed on it and the pilot ordered the rest of the crew to bale out, they were taken prisoner,
The pilot stayed with the aircraft and eventually it fell off the the balloon the pilot regained control with enough height and made it back to Germany.

Thanks Mark, to be honest I didn’t know anyway, at the time to rapped up with the JU88.:)
Me to RAF St Athan around 1976. There for a week working mainly on the JU88 Prior to delivery to its new home at Hendon.:D
Excellent! I love stories like this. thanks for posting.
After the last series it got blasted for having so much fake stuff going on.I used to watch it but when things started to get silly i turned it off.Utter rubbish in the end, hope they dont let any more new series,s to be shown.
I agree. I like watching it because its hilarious. Watching them doing the scared sketches. Makes me wonder why they do it if that is the case. Its a good comedy.
Some great pics of the Sabre on this thread. Just thought I would post these. From memory Typhoon crashed near Exeter after engine cut out. Recovered early 1970’s.
Thanks for your input very interesting. I know its all dramatized for TV entertainment. I thought it was like most episodes quite comical. 🙂

It would be nice to put her back into her original scheme before going to Cosford….. fat chance of that though.
There used to be a VC10 at Cosford in BOAC Livery don’t know if its still there. For me the best ever looking design for a commercial Airliner.
