    Okay,
No. 3 is a Spad (Skyraider), I think an AD-4Q and No. 5 is a Ryan XFR-1 Fireball..a radial and turbojet aircraft.
Apparently it was very good to but came in at a time when the Panthers were coming in so was obsolete really quick.

    TNZ,

Yes both the XF5B and the XP-15 are based on the same airframe other then that their isn’t much, I will have to pull out my specs. I think its a real Slick plane and one make a rather interesting repo.

Has for the third one let me fire up the old scanner tonight.

    Cheers Crazymainer

So that must mean I get half a point for correct airframe but the wrong service testing the airframe…. 😀 😮

Full marks to Phil, though (Stormbird). He’s pretty sharp when it comes to these quizes…

Looking forward to the next challenge.

    Cheers

    Thanks Crazymainer. 😀

That was indeed a hard quiz !!!!

    I’m ready No.3 when you are….

Is the XF5B-1 similar to the XP-15 ’cause they look near identical.

    Alrighties,…

I believe the third one down (the parasol fighter) is a Boeing Model 202 XP-15.

This aircraft was only built in prototype form, and was destroyed in a crash in 1931.

Contentious point: This aircraft was only tested by the Army Air Corps, not the US Navy.

    TNZ.
    🙂

PS Still working on the second one. 😉

    Hi John,

You are quite right, I did a little more research on the timelines of these aircraft.

I should have really said 3 different approaches to maritime patrolling.
But it is a great photo 🙂

Also I’m trying to work out the first aircraft, the triplane on floats.

I think it may be an early Curtiss, maybe an F-5 ??

    Thanks for the info, CM

It’s an amazing photo, in the fact that it represents 3 completely different generations of maritime patrolling.

The Sunderland looks like a real antique in the company of the other 2 aircraft!!! 😮
