hmmm,….$20K for the Spit,… approx $5K for a good V12 Jag engine, about another $5K of mounting brakes, the prop and engine mounts…..
taxi-able replica with nearly the right sounds 😀

Phil,
Have you been to the Wigram AFM ?
If you haven’t it is a definite must !!! 🙂
And if you do, hop across to Wellington and drop in to say hi 😀
Cheers
Chris
Here’s a good (bad ?) example of “demob”……. 🙁

Placing it in a hanger with an imaginatve display environment adds a lot to the viewing experiance such as displays at Wigram RNZAFM in New Zealand – A real little gem of a place and getting better all the time.
What needs to happen to all Museums is a lot of attention in the planning phase –
1) What are you trying to achieve
2) What do customers value and appreciate
3) What is the context of the display and the aircraft(what is the aircraft and what environment should it be displayed in as a result)My thoughts.
Kindest regards
John Parker
I concur. The Wigram displays are absolutely brilliant. The lighting does a lot for the atmosphere of the aircraft and sets the mood.

Why even bother with a Lancaster when something of comparablish size like a HS748 manufactured by the same company would attract far less attention and they’re basically off the shelf aircraft.
TNZ.
hmmm, interesting..
The silent part,..would that mean it was jet-powered?
4 merlins make quite a rumble I would think well before the lanc would even be seen.
And “New Build”.
Would the lanc have been built in the 80’s? What about the specialised tooling necessary to do this?
I remeber seeing a pic of a lanc with turbojets mounted under the wings for testing these. So nothing is impossible I reckon.

hmmm,….dunno if I trust a chopper, with the rarity and value of the STM…
If you owned the aircraft would you ???
TNZ
I caught that on the radio news – it needs choppering out? Why? Clevedon’s polo field isn’t that small, it hosts international tounraments. I doubt that the STM needs that much ground to take off, and I would surmise it is capable of operating from grass? I guess it may be because of tree belts though.
Glad it is still in one piece after its chequered career.
Me too !!!
beautiful aircraft !!
Perhaps it’s had an engine malfunction causing the forced landing and can’t take off again ?
Cheers
Chris
That is very impressive, John !!!!
I’m sure I’ve got some footage somewhere of that barrel roll in front of startled Boeing executives.
If you look above in this thread you shall see I have included a link of this very same footage.
It is brilliant stuff 🙂

Saudis never had Jags… Just the Omanis.
Oops you’re right, I meant Omanis…..
TNZ
Would they be Saudi Jaguars then ?
Hard to tell in the footage
TNZ
They didn’t work on my RealPlayer or Quicktime.
Do you have all of you file associations set in your WMP ?
As they’re MPEG-4’s
Why the website owner chose the obscure formats is beyond me.
TNZ
MPEG-4 files like that will require something like Quicktime. Better to use a more popular format imv.
I agree, but they will open & play fine with Windows Media Player. I have version 6.4 and it’s fine.

Well I liked it….take off or not…
